Pushing Up The Daisies

So many iconic characters/movies when you think about it.

Top Secret
Willow
Top Gun
Heat
Batman Forever
The Saint

Did his own singing for The Doors movie, so well that the old band members could barely tell the difference from the real Jim Morrison.
Somehow I have never seen that so I will have to watch it over the weekend. I had a couple of dopey university housemates who completely put me of anything to do with the Doors when it came out in 1991.

It’s a good movie, and they are a great band, despite all the b ollocks and glorification associated with Morrison’s ‘27 Club’ very sad death.

Another sad day for the music world. Clem Burke, Blondie's brilliant drummer passes away.

Such a great musician.

When I had my Christmas reunion with old school mates none of the 6 of us were still practising Catholics and only 2 had their kids go to catholic schools. Following really fallen away in the Irish community.

Pope Francis died this morning.
The public appearance yesterday must have been too much. He looked and sounded very frail.
I know you have briefly written about bad experiences you suffered as a child growing up at the hands of a Catholic institution. Some terrible things have come from Catholicism, like all big organisations, sadly it has not been immune. I am so sorry for those who have suffered in the name of the religion. It has been poorly led in the past and children abused by its priests or adherents coming up with their own self serving interpretations of the biblical teachings.

For all of that though, Pope Francis was trying to bring about change. May be too late for some but you have to start somewhere. He was not afraid to address taboo subjects and to provide good, calm leadership in a time when it has definitely been needed. At the moment in particular, where it seems many world leaders are self serving he was in my opinion inspirational and more true to the Christian teachings than many of his predecessors; but like any human he was not perfect. For me, his loss is massive; the world has lost yet another progressive leader.

RIP Francis and thank you for your service.
