Pre Season Thread

Lots to be optimistic about after today. Our new signings all looked very good. Van Hecke I love already! Robertson pinging in those crosses (need to make sure we can benefit from them). Tonali was busy everywhere.
Yes we need a bit more attacking wise but I’m not too worried going into next week. Will be interesting to see who starts tomorrow.

And one of those days where it was lovely to see so many kids enjoying a day at the stadium. They are our fans of the future. (So apologies to any parents/children I might have inadvertently pushed past on the ramp at Northumberland Park station but I can only walk so slowly before I am going in reverse!)

So true. Watching Van Hecke commanding his space too. In constant dialogue with Kinsky and seemed to heave eyes everywhere. One dodgy pass where he lost concentration, otherwise a very solid home debut imo

Only seen the highlights but van heck always seems to be in the wrong pace defensively
Am I seeing something that ain’t there

Going on minutes played in pre season the most match fit of the outfield players who played today are Gray, Tel, Gallaher, Richy , Tonali, Moore, Robbo, Hecke and Bergvall, depending on incomings/outgoings that should be nine of the squad for Brentford plus goalies, Kinsky and Dubravka, would think Davies another sure squad member for Brentford plus Porro who's made of iron , that's 13 , six to go.

Nice. These guys passing it out from the back, Fernandes and Tonali receiving to smash it out on the wings, Kudus and Savinho/Tel (?) darting down the flanks finding Gakpo in acres of space! Boom.

More central passes in one pre season friendly than I saw in the whole of Thomas Frank’s tenure at Spurs.

Kinsky's passing -and RDZ's continual insistance of it- is such a joy to watch. I was impressed with how seamless Senesi was. VH was really good. I am still left puzzled by Gallagher. Bergy has so much potential to be so much, his decision-making is not always the best, but he was fun to watch. Tonali, when he finds rhythm with everyone, will be huge. Tel is going to be a presence for us, and I admire Moore's efforts - he showed that if Kudus needs more time and we cannot get signings over the line quickly he can do a job. Robertson's deliveries were fun to watch, Archie is dependable, and Richy scored again and worked very hard/made some decent connections albeit he did miss a stretch-sitter. Still, he's there and scoring. Dom is not.

Based on what I saw today I think our starting line-up next week (no new signings in) will be

Kinsky

Gray
JPVH
Senesi
Robertson

Fernandes
Tonali

Moore
Gallagher
Tel

Richy

subs: Dubravka, Solanke, Scarlett, Donley, Hardy, Williams-Barnett, Danso, Davies, Souza

Still leaves Kudus, Porro, Maddison, and VdV to come in, plus Bentancur in the squad (is he fit yet?) Udogie is an outlier at this point. If we end up signing Savinho and Gakpo (both make sense as Savinho likes to stay wide and Gapko can play across the front both wide and inside), come January when hopefully Deki is fit, we will have a very robust squad. In THAT scenario, my match-day 11 is...

Kinsky

Porro
JPVH
MDV
Robertson

Fernandes
Tonali

Kudus
Maddison
Gakpo

Richy

SUBS: Dubravka, Savinho, Solanke, Bentancur, Bergvall, Senesi, Gray, Tel, Moore

It's a hell of a bench and I still cannot find space for Williams-Barnett or Danso.
The gamble is Deki - we have no idea whether he will return to be the player he was.
When Xavi comes in, he replaces Maddison for me who drops to the bench which means Bentancur drops out.

If Udogie is hurt again, we need to cut our losses and move on. He had the summer off, yet is struggling with a knock. Cruel as it is, we cannot wait. Be interesting to see if Souza comes in at some point, because Robertson cannot be overplayed (Davies will share with him I'm sure).

p.s. I forgot Odobert...not sure where he fits in.
