Potential Conundrum

So you're sitting in 3rd and certain to finish in the top 4, facing a EL final which if you it win it you'll have to defend it a lose your CL place. Are you still going to try to win it?
The current rules make good sense.
I think there's an argument in giving the winners of the EL a CL place.
