Hard work should bring a better quality of life and you have to remember working hard in your own home life can improve your quality of life much more than working for someone else.

I just think that what we've talked about is why so many in the US and Europe are turning to alternative political choices. The mainstream parties and political consensus is getting a kicking. UK has been a bit late to the party but I suspect Reform will gorge on the death of the tories over the next year and then start eating Labour's voter base. People are sick and tired of the consensus that has built up. I mean we've been indoctrinated into a way of life that is privileged on paper but nobody is bloody happy. We've literally spent the last 5 years debating what a woman is. Our own prime minister, after answering "of course they can" to a question as to whether a woman can have a penis has just stood up in parliament and said "according to the law, a woman can't have a penis". And you cant question this gonads I mean people have lost their jobs over this sh*t and peoplr are just sick of it. Sick of being told what to think. Sick of being told what a fulfilling life should look like. Sick of being afraid to speak their thoughts.

I've had a few tonight after a tough week to be fair but you get the sentiment. Its more that it shouldn't really be a debate. And I actually feel really sorry for people that have been born into the wrong body to have to be dragged into this gonads. The problem with identity politics is it is divisive. You can surely have a society where a man that wants to be a woman can feel safe and secure and free in that reality without others being terrorised as to how to answer basic fundamentals of science and biology for fear of being sacked or canceled. Everyone is just trying to get through life and be themselves warts and all.

(I’ve never watched GB News but he’s quite prolific on X. And is without doubt a bit of a plonker.

I don't watch it either, but in what way is he a bit of a plonker? Does he bring up issues your uncomfortable with and we're rather not discussed. Is his idealogy different to yours?

I watch the sky news headlines. Then I used their weather app to see what the weather will be. I find a lot of people don't like it when difficult discussions are to be had. Maybe why Jess Phillips turned down a request from the leader of Oldham Council, as women's minister I'm sure she had a lot of pressing issues to get on with.

My point being all of our time is finite and we should not waste time with news sources that ask uncomfortable questions. Sky sports news pander to the lowest common dominator and chat inane rubbish in barely coherent sentences, and I love them for it.

Can I ask you as I find you to be one of the more reasonable posters and you are a woman. What do you think of JK Rowling.

Won't get directly into the trans debate as I don't really have a view on it. But I don't get the hate towards Rowling. To me she is campaigning for women's rights. My mother was a woman, my sister is a woman(not a particularly nice one) my wife is a woman, the first wife was as well. I quite like women, and they have often been mistreated by men.

Per MWH renewables are much cheaper, with onshore wind being the cheapest at the moment. PV next on the list and will likely overtake onshore wind in the not-too-distant future. And these industries are still very much on the learning curve, so getting cheaper by the day. Nuclear on the other hand, is going the opposite direction. The cost per MWH hour is up about 60% in the last 10 years. These are levelised prices without subsidies. There is only one winner here.

To tie into your point about the real estate used for PV. Needless to say PV can be added almost anywhere and does not need to be all colocated. I would argue the distributed nature of PV adds to its benefits; there is no single point of failure, which is more important than ever with the changing climate. And the fact that I can create my own power, the democratisation of electrical power in effect, annoys the FF industry no end which is why they lobby against renewables continuously.

Rather than derailing this politics thread further I can take this up with you in the climate thread later if you like.

Not in the UK, renewables are heavily subsidized and also need to take into account the costs to have alternative power sources if there's not enough wind or sun for example. Also is it really green when the turbines are mostly produced using slave labour and powered by coal? Are we not just outsourcing some emissions elsewhere? The same applies to electric cars as well.

I think there's room for a mix, nuclear is still the only method of consistent power generation.

Our power costs are the highest in the developed world despite over 50% of our power being generated by renewables in 2024 Maybe a better question is should we be willing to pay higher costs for a greener world?

I don't agree with his views but that's not why I don't like him. (There are people with differing views to mine who I don't consider to be pratts, even if they are wrong ). In his tweets he always came across as somewhat pompous, speaking as if he had some authority, when he was just like most people on there, trying to build up his profile. Which if he is now on GB News, has seemingly worked for him I guess.

I don't take to her because she appears to have no empathy for the trans-women she wants to exclude from something they have been doing for years (or so I believe) based on previous guidance. I'm not aware of lots of problems of trans-women (or those identifying as such) harming other women in toilets, changing rooms etc. but I haven't looked into it, it is just not something I have ever heard about. Maybe Rowling only has good intentions but there has to be a less combative way to discuss the issue and to attempt to keep everyone safe, not just one group.

I’d respectfully suggest a bit more investigation into this debate. After all, it’s not JK Rowling who has been issuing death threats, labelling anyone who disagrees with her views ‘TERFS’, nor attempting to shut down and cancel the careers of those who hold opinions different to hers.

she's been able to voice that opinion, repeatedly, its all over the internet, Elon Musk is a big fan of her thoughts incidentally...

I'm not comfortable with the death threats, but her words, amplified though others, will have caused untold distress and pain to many trans people, some of whom will sadly have committed suicide
