Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

England doesnt have smallholders (Scotland still has a few crofters) - they got removed by the agricultural revolution centuries ago. Every farmer left is a at least a millionaire.

Thank GHod for it. The enclosures massively improved the efficiency of food production and freed us all from the tithes.

If you want to be out in the fields then off you trot it’s a nice snowy cold day for it.

I'm not decrying her CV. She lied about her CV. It doesn't look like she ever worked as a fully qualified economist. Doesn't that alarm you?

Or if your mum was about to have hip surgery and you found out the surgeon doing it wasn't a qualified surgeon and had actually dropped out of medical school, got a job in a call centre, been sacked from that job then wangled his current job by lying on his CV, would your attitude be "well let's see how it all works out before rushing to judgement"?
In any health situation, yes absolutely.

Financial, not at all.

Plus spicing up an exaggerated comparison, doesn't help you make your point.

Farmers who own the land and business are really up against it. The estate value includes the machinery (typically valued over a £million) farmland, farm buildings, farmhouse, and yes, crops in the ground).

Three generations of taxation in a century will take out about 80% of that family asset. How can a business survive facing that backdrop?

This is about land in my opinion. Rayner wants it prised from private ownership to build houses on.

The fundamental mistake is that farming is a primary industry, one of very few we have left, and of the utmost value to the nation. The only value family farmers get from the increasing value of their land is for using as collateral for borrowing.
What do you have of your grandad's? A pocket watch and some WW2 medals like most people? Or 10 square miles of land worth many million of pounds?

It's not to do with housing - farmers would sell all their land for that if they could. It's about making a small indent on reversing excessive concentration of wealth

Four months?
*Sigh* 4 months is nothing in terms of time for an investigation to complete. In this case you have victims being accused of being aggressors and vis versus. Witness statements will need to be carefully looked at as there maybe cross over evidence. There will almost certainly be challenges by defendants' lawyers which means that the persons breaking the law might not be convicted. CPS want to maximize the chances of convictions sticking.

Certainly not as straightforward as being made out on here by some posters or Reform. Would love the latter to waste their money on trying to bring about faster convictions rather than grandstanding.

Referring to the comparison with the summer riot convictions. It's not a race thing (by the way people of colour who engaged in disorder have also been convicted) the evidential chain is just much less complicated I imagine.

As for politically motivated criminal justice, the usual gas lighting form the Right happening here. If you want prosecute more quickly because someone is non white or Muslim rather than carrying out a thorough and proper investigation then I would say that is probably more likely to be politically motivated.

That can't be right, pensioners are all tory scum millionaires, surely when your grandad died you must have inherited a fortune?

Amazing how little people know about the legal system in this country.

I keep seeing throw away "if they were white" and such nonsense on stuff like this, and with the Southport situation. Totally ignoring years and years of similar cases, some of which high profile where people have taken years to get to court or had their identities protected (yes white folk).

Yeah. Like this attack on tree surgeons finishing up at the end of the day.

And labelled their victims "White Bastards" in a blatant racists attack.

Resulting worth one man nearly getting his hands chopped off, whilst stopping the axe from going through his head. The guy got off from attempted murder.

If this was white on black or any other ethnic group, we would still be hearing about it today.

I don't see that attack as racist, it would not have mattered who the victim was the result would have been the same.
They were not attacked because they were white, they were attacked because the guy is a clam.
Now he did use racist language, but let us be totally honest here who does not use inappropriate language at times, especially when angry.

Triple lock has taken the state pension to a whopping £11k, one of the lowest in Europe BTW, if a uni lecturer on £40k year can't survive how does a pensioner.

State pension is supposed to be a safety net - nearly all will have private ones as their main income. Pensioners also have a fraction of the outgoings. They own their homes, don't pay NI, don't pay for travel etc. They aren't being asked to pay £1500 a month for a converted cupboard under the stairs or need to find a spare £30k cash in hand for a house deposit.

The problem is, if the attackers where white and shouted black bastards for example.

It would be considered racist, then for next several weeks we would have had puff pieces about how racist Britian is etc

Just some consistency would be nice.

That just isn't the case though.

It's clear you are not struggling for money, working minimum wage in dead end job.

My mum has worked all her life, she hasn't got a pot to p*ss in.

You are just making sweeping statements based on emotion and not facts.

Yes I agree on that, and it highlights a few problems that in my view are part of divide and rule by the governments.

What is hinted at in the article is that this guy is a gangster, a part of his community is living in fear of him and his gang and they are criminals.
Just like just about every housing estate in the UK, although mostly white I would imagine.
And that's something that I really don't think is emphasised enough, we the common man in the street are all the same, we live through the same joys and struggles.
I have more in common with those people than those like Farage or Robinson who feed us their bile or the left who tell me I'm a racist or sexist because I don't go along with what they want to indoctrinate me with.

Come on mate seriously, NI contributions?
The contribution that entitles you to pension.
Just admit it, not all pensioners are millionaires, quite a lot are living hand to mouth.
I will bet the proportion of poor pensioners to millionaire pensioners is considerably higher than uni lecturers living in cars to those that are doing very well for themselves.
Not to mention a very good teachers pension BTW.

As with everything the truth generally falls in the middle, that's why I don't get excited about stories on either side of the divide, especially when there are approx 110,000 racially agrevated incidents reported in this country, so we hear of an absolute fraction of them, so the idea that one side is getting favour over the other, it's frankly bollox.

Recent history is absolutely littered with white young adults under 18 whose identity was withheld by judges in order to protect them or victim and see towards a fair trial etc.....even young murderers. So it's just popular rubbish to spout "if they were white" they clearly are not keeping any record of this stuff to back up the statements

It's like protests and arrests, I guarantee I could go to any and not get arrested as a white middle aged male, im certain you could too, people who get arrested look for in and often do it provocatively in order to say "see what did i tell you"

People IMO are best keeping their own counsel on stuff like that and like you say, not being swayed by bollox put out on either side

So I agree with the highlighted massively

I am fortunate in like most of us in the south I had two grandads.

They pay a fudge of a lot of capital taxes instead.

I mostly agree with that...
