Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

GHod the more you dig into that the worse it gets

drill baby brill

abandon human rights

you’d have to be thick as brick to consider voting for any of that

People voted for a party lead by Boris Johnson and Brexit, I think Barnam said something about the ignorance/gulliblity of the general public.

What I find...poignant...is the people who'll vote Farrage because Brexit didn't deliver. They were promised lower immigration, and it increased. They were promised better jobs, things got worse. So what do you do? Vote for the liar who sold you a pup.

The reason its poignant (and not ironic) is I understand what these people wanted, and how they've been left to one side by political classes. But to think the Tory party, or a quasi-fascist like Farrage who presents well but offers nothing of substance, is the answer, is sad really. You've been missold nonsense on immigration for over a decade. Effectively been used by Tory Party and Vote Leave to get cheap votes. You're upset, you're worse off now than you were, immigration is even higher, so what do you do? Vote for the guy who offered up the lie in the first place.

No one really votes for Farage though. He's just splitting the Priti Patel/Reece-Mogg wing of the Tory vote. The red wall won't go to him.

Brexit was quite different - that was the biggest and broadest political coalition ever assembled in this country.

It's a bit like scammers who exploit someone once, and go back for more once they know they are a soft target.

Such a wasted opportunity eh. All that guff. All that belief. All that agreement. Yet it was vacuous, there wasn’t any substance. All it has done is leave some feeling even more alienated and left out.

Lets see what happens now a progressive government are going to inherit the sovereignty. Milliband and Haigh have some interesting plans around energy and transport ownership that go beyond EU parameters.

Should imagine the policy aims were compatible with membership. Nationalised transport and energy are common within EU nations are they not?

Every chance that he’ll be MP for Clacton four weeks today.

Once he’s in Parliament he’s in prime position to switch to the Tories once Sunak is gone. He wants leadership of them, and to head up a populist Conservative right-wing party, which can seek to provide supposed answers to the very complex problems the country will continue to face once Labour are in power.

He’s not done yet, more’s the pity.

No, they are illegal under EU state aid and competition laws.

They can have publicly owned companies operating, but not be properly nationalised industries.

Nah. GB non-sense. The Netherlands actually has a law that makes private ownership of electricity, water and gas illegal! How is this possible?

The infrastructure is national, but the retail was made to separate out and is commercial.

So its like our rail - network rail is national, but then there are parasitic rail operators. Its not like say BT or British Rail before Thatcher gave away all our family silver

This roosterroach being elected would be a travesty. From reading the political tealeaves' I'm not sure that is a given thankfully.

However the reform vote is more likely to play to Labour's favour as they will peel off more tory voters than Labour;s. If Farage joins the tories they will likely be mortally wounded party at that point.

Sunak : I think it’s incredibly important that we don’t politicise this.
Says the man who rushed back to England for a political interview.

Seriously - how can someone get it SO wrong?
