I'd be more interested in who is the next Solanke level buy?

We will buy more Grays, Bergvalls, etc ...

But if you had to buy one player, 60-70M next summer, who is it?

Still think a DM option
I still like Emerson at Atlanta
If we’re going big then Wirtz would be in the BIG bracket but not a DM
I read that we were after Angke Gomes and he plays that deep role and would be free next summer, same as Jonathan Davies
There is some smart squad building that can be done to allow us that BIG buy

Wirtz is not coming to us. He'd be going to real or somewhere for a lot more than £60-70m. As for who we'd go for? Depends on how our youngsters progress and the players play this season.
 
I guess the question becomes do we go top down or bottoms up.

Bottoms up is an easy one. We just strengthen at LB for Davies and at GK for Forster / Austin / Whiteman. That will shut down the questions about depth in all positions. Then you look at others like Werner / Richi and plot some upgrading.

Top down is more of an interesting one. Are there players out there in any position that firstly, we can get and secondly, will join us? Examples could be Kvaratskhelia, Yamal / Williams or perhaps even Branthwaite. That would take some serious money.

We do pretty much what we have done the last few summers. 1 big money signing. A couple of youngsters and an oportunist signing. Maybe a loan aswell.

Jan probably one signing i'd say.

Madrid have players on his position already and Madrid also don’t actually seem to want to spend big big
I expect him to go to Bayern like most do
Although I could see city or Chelsea buying him

Branthwaite is over priced still and wouldn’t go anywhere he doesn’t start
Someone like Kvara would be available for the right price.. but he does play left side
I’ve always said the summer gone was about squad depth and we have addressed much of that
Back up keeper has to be HG so I don’t get why we don’t push on with the youngsters we have. I’ve not seen an English keeper that would come as back up
Left back is the issue but then Spence is covering now

It’s why I was more keen on this thread on lesser known players
 
I really like our squad now. We've also got Yang coming in in January and Vuskovic in June, who will take Werner and Davies' spots. Devine and Donely maybe ready to step into the squad by then too.

As Muttley mentioned, the two big gaps are LB rotation and GK cover. We were supposedly bringing in that Brest LB Locko before he did his achilles, so I imagine we'll revisit that in Jan or next summer. GK probably needs to be English - maybe go for someone like Sam Tickle.

Beyond that immediate, I guess the upgrading ponderings probably centre on Bissouma, Bentancur and Richarlison. We know all 3 are good enough (as each's last handful of games has shown), they've just not always been consistent enough. We just need to see how they get on for the rest of this year (considering also the progress of Gray, Lankshear and Veliz) and then decide.
