Photo Organiser

Soooo...

The Mrs has put her foot down and I won't be buying Photoshop /Lightroom any time soon.

Which photo organisers do people use? The standard file system is tedious and hard to navigate, at times.

All I want to be able to do it :

Store photos in one place
Sort them into spectate folders (holidays, special events etc)
Delete duplicates
Rename batches at a time
Tag the photos to search later (a tree tag to allow a search for that, or a "aunt" tag to search for her, later)

Any advice on a cheap or free alternative would be great.

Cheers

if you have a Mac then Photos is great

Can anybody explain to me how the whole images thing works on Apple? I'm trying to free up space on my phone, and have a MacBook. However, if I try to delete a photo from my phone, it says it will also be deleted from everywhere else as well, which is not what I want to do?
I don't "get" it.

have you turned on iCloud Photo Library on both devices?

if you have and the MacBook is set to keep masters then you can turn on optimise storage on your iPhone

with that on your phone won't keep the local high res images that take up space but it will still have access to them via iCloud

as always I strongly reccomend making a backup of everything before you make any changes

I'll check the MacBook when I get home tonight, thank you.
I was also trying to make backups of photos from a shared album, but it seemingly wouldn't let me. It sounded like the person who shared them with me had to also be online at the same time as me, for me to even be able to open them...? But still wouldn't let me copy them locally...

you can do that, on a Mac they can be dragged off to the desktop or wherever (shift click drag for multiples) on iOS tap the share button then select save

the original sharer of the photos doesn't need to be online

Google photos is meant to be quite good, can upload them all for free and tag them etc. Can do similar stuff with photos within MS Onedrive as well. Or failing that try Flickr.

Or for desktop stuff try phase one or cyberlink, get good reviews but I've never used them.
