'Perfect albums'

If I had one dream it would be to control an audience like Freddie, he was unique and an absolute star.
As we make dinner on a Saturday night the wife and I will have youtube playing "random" music, radio gaga from live aid came on, the whole crowd were doing the hand clap, no way they were all queen fans, but Freddie had them eating out of his hand.
He was a one off
Phenomenal
One of the best stories I ever heard about him was I think a Duran Duran guy talking about how physically imposing he was too when having his audience either in private or public
The story was along the lines of Freddie said he would make a great “queen” and he said “im not gay” and Freddie’s reply was “I can make anyone gay darling”… and he thought Freddie was gonna grab him, but Freddie stood up…he thought to himself F£&k what have I done… and Freddie sang to him
I think it was before going on stage at live aid
But he said it was then he realised this guy was a unique specimen

My current fave is babies from pulp, that guitar at the beginning just gets me going 😁
I did think have Pulp had that one perfect album
Great great band with brilliant history too
Such a shame BBC have stopped making their music documentaries that used to be on a Friday night on BBC3

I'm the same, doesn't stop me.
Few things better for my mental health than closing the door, cranking up the volume and singing along with Freddie, bowie, or some of my more random choices on Spotify.
Sends my spirits soaring, whether it's bangers like don't stop me now, somebody to love, or the soul searchers of the belway brothers, quicksand. I just lose myself in the joy.
Haha. I've literally just been peeling potatoes whilst singing and dancing to Fat Bottomed Girls. On my own. Definitely one that needs the volume turned up.

They were incredible that 1993-4 period - Lipgloss, Razzmatazz, Seconds, Live On, OU - all also brilliant.
They really were incredible in that period, though not sure why you picked edgy b-sides, these 2 albums were absolutely brilliant. Every track is great apart from "Someone like the moon"

Aerial does not get the accolades it deserves, her best work imho. Way better than hounds of love which is totally spoilt by over use of the Fairlight and overdubs.

Oooh…can’t agree at all! I love Aerial, but Hounds of Love is totally flawless.

Ryan Adams version of 1989 is very good though

I was going to suggest Heartbreaker as a perfect album. Gold is ALMOST perfect, but could have done with a more rigorous edit - which is pretty much true of his entire output (much as I love his work).

Heartbreaker is great

I loved Jacksonville City Night

Random add on to this
One of my favourite bands the Maccabess released an unreleased song yesterday
Heard it today for the first time walking the dog and it had the hairs in my neck stand up
It’s not gonna be everyone’s cup of tea for sure but that kind of moment from a song is awesome for me

I like their sound, but never felt they cracked their song writing. I think their best is actually something like Higher Love (released under 86TVs), so maybe the one that wins me over is in front of them still

I like the brothers on that stuff but for me they just got better and better

Was lucky enough to win tickets to their first comeback gig in June at The Dome in Tufnell Park. Only 400 there, mostly friends and family. It was incredible. Didn’t realise there was a new song - will seek it out now. Best band of the last 20 years for me; like you, I thought every album was better than the last. Orlando’s solo stuff is outstanding too.

His solo stuff is different
Saw him in Bedford and had a good chat with him after
One of the local DJs I know used to work with them on the way up so we got guest list tickets when they played on the NME tour years ago. Was chatting to felix quite a bit who is a massive cricket nut

Felix’s book is great, if you haven’t already read it.
