OT: What next for Harry?

Re: Harry Redknapp

Harry Redknapp will remain as manager of Queens Park Rangers.
QPR's relegation was confirmed after Sunday's 0-0 draw with Reading and co-owner Tony Fernandes held a meeting with the 66-year-old on Monday.
"I don't think there was any point where he was thinking of not being with us and continuing this project he has embarked upon," Fernandes said.
"Harry will not be forced to sell any players he wants to keep. We had a very good discussion on this."

Re: Harry Redknapp

Its as good as it gets :ross:

I find English enjoying negativity over positivity strange, but it's common place. For me Holland winning the World Cup is as good as it gets or Ajax winning the Champion's League or Spurs winning the Premiership. For you, Redknapp's team getting relegated is as good as it gets. Honestly, I think Spurs winning the Premiership is as good as it gets, not seeing a former coach who did well for us coaching a relegated team.

He's making fun of Redknapp. He's referring to when a journo confronted Redknapp about crowd unrest/booing last season when we'd lost 3rd place to Arsenal. Redknapp launched into a tirade against Spurs fans calling us all macarons and said being 4th was as good as it gets for a club like spurs

Maybe, but I have never seen him make a point. Only be critical and make negative comments. I doubt that is what he meant at all. And Redknapp is right. Chelsea and City and Utd should be top three simply through resources. Arsenal and Liverpool should be above us too, and I fear if we fail top four this season then we will see us fall behind both of them next season.

Do you know what? I get why people don't like him, I agree that the media give him an easy ride, largely because he is a good quote, hardly a surprise is it? But people made excuses for Jol, granted he was hugely unlucky on the last day of the 05/06 season, but he gets a free ride for the team conceding late goals in numerous games that cost us valuable points and also for our terrible record against the big 4. I accept Redknapp had a better team than Jol had, but Jol had better strikers, Berbatov (a world class player in his time for Spurs) and Keane a very good striker. We've all seen in the last couple of seasons how great strikers can carry teams. Ok, we should have finished above Arsenal last season, but we finished 4th, and I don't think many people would have said that at the beginning. And Arsenal only held on to 3rd place due to some of the most pathetic goalkeeping I have ever seen. Then we all know what happened in Munich. If that had happened in Paris when Arsenal played Barca, people would be far more forgiving of Jol.

You may not like the man, but it's silly when people can't look past that. I for one can't stand Berbatov, but I would be fudging stupid to say he wasn't one of the best strikers we've had at the club in the last 20 years.

He's not right. Redknapp had the 3rd best team in the country last year. He had Bale, VDV, Modric, an in-form Adebayor and Ledley King for part of it at least. We were 10 points clear but he took his eye off the ball. Tbh with the benefit of hindsight and comparing our team on paper we should have put in a title challenge past January! It was a massive failure by Harry. We had the best central mid in the country, the best winger and one of the best attacking midfielders. He had a trio of world class players plus solid surrounding players. Sandro couldn't even get a game. Neither could Kranjcar and Pienaar. That squad was so packed full of quality and depth and he fudged it up big style so no, 4th wasn't as good as it could get, it was a failure and he knew it, the fans knew it and more importantly Levy knew it

See I don't think that is true. City, Utd and Chelsea were the best teams and Arsenal had Van Persie and that was enough for them to be better than us too.

We also played a lot of squad players last season, and we actually played more than most clubs and yet people often say we didn't. People forget we had a lot of injuries last season, more than this season but the injuries were more to squad players.

But people don't give him any credit for finishing above Chelsea. When was the last time we previously did that? I don't think we had a better side than Chelsea. I would say we had the 4th best squad, but we also blew 3rd.

Interesting to see if people blow up if we finish 5th. Don't seem to remember too many posters saying Arsenal were better than us after we beat them and were 7 points clear of them. I would say it's a failure if we don't finish above them now.

Hey I love Martin Jol and wish he was still our coach :) But Redknapp was excellent for Spurs too, and AVB is also being excellent for us. I don't understand why it is impossible to like several coaches or when people who like a current coach have to justify how that coach is doing better than the past coach or because they didn't like the last coach have to justify the new one. It's crazy!

It shouldn't have been enough for them to be better than us. Our run of form after January was horrendous, relegation form, we looked clueless every game we played, with a team full of class. We lost to qpr, drew with wolves at home, villa away got humiliated by arsenal and man utd, lost to Everton, got humiliated against Chelsea in the cup, just countless games where we played brick turgid football and the players didn't seem to care - he wasn't managing he was waiting for the call from the FA. He didn't have bad injuries to key players, not half as bad as this season. Bale, Modric & Ade hardly missed any games.

Chelsea were average last season. They looked tired and old. They finished 6th. People forget that. We had a better, younger, fitter squad than them or Arsenal last season.

It won't be a failure as while we moved 7 points clear out fixture list was always tougher from that point on. Also their squad and team are better individually and more settled. They also have had less injuries. We had to play several games without Bale, Lenon & Defoe this season

We've probably been over this before, but:

I detest the man Harry Redknapp. I don't see any reason not to do that because he was our manager for a few years. I could just as easily ask you to separate what he did with us from the man. You don't ask people to stop hating Graham because he won us a trophy. Most people make Ramos out to be a joke, but he also won us a trophy.

Redknapp has a history of acting the same way. Always blaming others, putting his own interests before those of the club he's at. I think the fact that we had to suffer through some of it made people a lot more aware of what he's really like instead of considering him a likable geezer that gets his teams to play decent football. Have a look around the internet and you'll find most PL clubs have nothing but contempt and even hatred of the man.

The love of Jol I don't get. Average manager. Wanted him gone sooner and have never missed him.

Can't stand Berbatov the man, but I've never let that get in the way of appreciating the football he produced while with us.

And were the Champion's of Europe. They did have a poor year in the Premiership, but they should have done better with the players they had. You don't win the Champion's League with bad players!

Last season injuries were bad. Sandro for half a season, Huddlestone for almost all season, Dawson for most of the season, Defoe for a lot of the season, Lennon for a third of the season. Bad year for injuries.

And I think the results this year have been as disappointing as the disappointing results last season, and for many seasons before that. And until we win the Premiership we will always have disappointing results at times because that is why we aren't champions.

Chelsea and Arsenal were very weak last year, Chelsea are much, much better this year. Hazard, Oscar, Ba and an in form Mata.

They also gave up Di Matteo went for the CL and the Cup.

Speaking of that, lets not forget the 5-1 SF final defeat against Chelsea, the first decent team we played, or the 2-0 SF defeat against Pompey when we did not play a decent team at all.

And yet this season we took the cups seriously and didn't even make a semi final

Come off it. They still had experience world class players like Drogba, Lampard, Terry, Cole, Mata. They massively underachieved in the league also, it's only because they fluked the CL that bailed them out of trouble.

Redknapp didn't have injuries? King was a shadow of the player he once was in the 2nd half of last season. Lennon missed key games.

We've also had some shockers at home this season. Our team may not be as good, but it's still more than good enough to not lose at home to Wigan and Fulham whilst also drawing to Norwich and West Brom.

I accept we faltered big style in the last two years, but were hardly pulling up any trees in the last month or so are we? It is the Spurs way to bottle it down the stretch.

I understand now. We will never agree on this because you have one rule for a coach you don't rate and another for a coach you do rate

Re: Harry Redknapp

Can't we just talk about Redknapp in a negative manner (if we so wish) without the same people taking it as a personal insult and dragging it out to a debate over his time here?
