OOMT - Tottenham vs Emirates Marketing Project

Problem is with our financial resources, a couple of those (at least) need to be £10m players who we improve
And?
The price of a player doesn’t relate to quality
That’s the issue I have with every transfer... Pepe cost £72m and is inferior to players thag cost much much less
James Justin cost £8m and has been brilliant
Bogie has by all accounts been playing really well and @Finney Is Back can comment more but he was very cheap
Players are out there
Abd some will cost a lot but that’s the task in hand
Buy the right players

For CB I feel we need to swerve another youngster and we need to swerve a hype player from another league. A Prem player with a minimum of 80/100 games has to be the remit. So JT works.

Pereira 2 years left in June. I’d hope £30m would be enough.
If he was I’d be stunned but who knows
Had had 2 serious injuries in his last 4 years

A long kickout and the defender not heading the ball away is forcing an error? If that's forcing an error we really are fudged
But if we are losing every game because of individual errors, at some point you have to say there is a systemic problem with the team. Confident, well drilled players don't make so many mistakes. Mistakes happen because the player is rushed or panicked. Granted, poorer players are likely to be more rushed and more panicked than better ones. But we don't look well drilled. Jose started to make this better by having us defend as a pack. It's just we never broke out of that pack unless we conceded. I thought he would tweak the system instead he completely abandoned it. I remember when Juande Ramos first took over, he had the players far fitter and well drilled so we defended and attacked in numbers. It requires incredible fitness and it was a joy to watch before it all fell apart.

Its so frustrating being a Spurs fan. We seem to hang on to players who are past their best far too long. We buy players who are not good enough for champions league regulars like PSG( see Aurier and Moura) etc etc etc. Whats the betting Reguilion gets recalled to Real. When it was clear Erikson wanted a new challenge we should have cashed in and got around £20 mil and put it towards snapping up Bruno Fernandes who I thought Man U got for a bargain price.

The other thing is that without the lure of Champions League football it makes it even harder to attract the top quality players especially when competing against the financial might of the likes of City ,Man U, Liverpool, Chelsea ,Real, Barcelona and Juve etc etc. We are reduced to buying youngsters and hope they develop into top class players, aint happening for us at the moment though.

We should have built the new stadium years ago, the pandemic happening is just pure bad luck for us as our income must have fallen off the cliff this season. It`s hard to see where we go from here

The squads had a lot of work to it since the end of the Poch era, that's the worrying thing - we shouldn't be sat here still talking about that 160m net spent in two summer windows, we should be moving on and i say that as someine who argued against you at the time and was of the opinion we needed the rebuild
Yeah I don’t want to go over old ground but a big chunk of that figure you include is Lo Celso who is barely available and Bergwijn who wasn’t a Mourinho target albeit we signed him anyway. Most of Mourinhos signings have been squad fillers - only Hojberg and Reguilon are actually first teamers. We need more quality, especially CB and AM.....

I’ve wondered for a good year if I’ve over rated a lot of our squad and I can’t see anything but yes as the answer. I’m embarrassed that I thought Poch going (as much as I loved him) would help the squad realise their full potential. The fact is the real top quality has gone and we are left with a lot of bang average. Verts not replaced,Dembele irreplaceable (NDombele is nowhere near his dominance yet, despite his ability), Eriksen replacement nowhere to be seen.
Every game I’m looking at what Mourinho can do to change things and it’s uninspiring - he either has Sissoko, Moura and Lamela starting because the others have been so poor or they are the players we have to turn to on the bench if things aren’t working. Dele hasn’t been the player he can be for a couple of years, maybe he can come back to form with time but not holding out hope. Bale just can’t be relied upon, Davies is ok but such a come down in quality from Reguilon and out CBS are to be polite inadequate. The only bright spots are Sess and Skipp out on loan who could genuinely challenge for first team spots next year the way things are. This squad needs a lot of work.....

Mate.
Yes, I don't disagree, but remember where (and from whom) you heard it first. Around two years and 4 windows ago, painful rebuild...

We could spend 160m on the defence on goal keeper position this summer and still not be as good as we were three seasons ago. I am amazed at how hard it has been for us to build again towards a great team. I do actually love son and kane but i would not be surprised if they both wanted out and as painful as that might be, it might be needed.

Dont know what the answers are but know that we need a lot of work at the back. A new keeper, 2 good quality centre backs with Rodon and Tanagana taking the back up roles. Sessegnon coming back to play back up to Reggie, dont think he is ready to be first place left back. If we cant afford a quality right back then we should go for someone pacey like Spence or Bogle.

Midfield we need to get rid of Sissoko and get another pacey run around merchant with skipp coming back this position should not need too much work, though holberg needs a rest sometimes i think.

Pacey wide players who can actually produce. I like Bailey but doubt we can afford him. Funny enough if Madueke had stayed he would have probably got game time. Maybe Clarke will come back and offer something. These positions need less work then defence.

So a new keeper 30m
A young and promising right back 10m
Two top quality centre backs 80m(might only get you average centre backs)

I see 120m before we even start on midfield, kind of see why Mourinho wanted Rudgier from Chelsea now. We will need to be very creative whatever it is we do this summer.

Fear management has had its day. A while ago. Ironically I think JM has been unfortunate the last two games, as we have been better yet errors cost us. As you say though, why so many errors. And I think it comes back to fear and no joy in the camp right now. It happens BUT you need a strong personality to raise them...strong and positive, even if you're trumping.

It's going to be more of the same going forwards and is still a fair bit more than the years preceeding him so if he can't make it work with that then...

I would agree with you if the mistakes were happening when the players were under pressure, but they are not.
Giving away soft penalties, sloppy passing in our defensive third, not clearing our lines. It's not from constant
pressure like it was in the earlier part of the season when we were too defensive.

Thankfully none of my brighton supporting mates read this forum, I would be laughed at for suggesting it but Dunk is actually a solid defender and a leader. He also talks the whole game which none of our players ever do. I can also see why the persistent links to Diop at West Ham.

If you look at the periods leading up to when managers leave their clubs/get sacked i think that player mistakes would be a common theme across the board

3 of the players he has signed will start his first choice team IMO, and that includes Bergwein (along with Reggie and Hojdjberg)
I believe he would also start Tanguy and Lo Celso in his first choice
We have had 3 on loan for him (1 gone already, 1 that won’t rmemain for his ridiculous salary, and 1 that may if the fee is right and has been an ok player filling in as a squad player).
We have Rodon as one for the future and to develop.
Doherty who IMO needs his confidence and some time (but in a struggling side that rarely happens) and he will be off this summer IMO
That would leave us with Rodon, Reggie, Hojdjberg and maybe Vinny (have I missed anyone?). Lo Celso was signed permanently under his tenure and he will be here too
We will have sessegnon and skipp back who will come into the squad and actually help and add to it for no money which is handy

Also, our technical touch has disappeared. So many poor first touches, fatigue?
Uh, that’s not allowed
But second half we looked shot
That’s when you have to be better with the ball
But against the best side in Europe currently it’s very hard
