*** OMT UCL Tottenham Hotspur vs Villarreal ***

markysimmo

Johnny nice-tits
1st UCL home game of the 25/26 campaign and I for one am excited
Looks like only the really expensive tickets haven't been sold which is better than last Wednesday when about 20k looked spare

Our home games are all exceptionally winnable and it will be good to start off strong at home with a win

For those in the UK our game is on Amazon Prime from 6.30pm tomorrow

My Team :

Vicario
Spence Romero VDV Udogie
Bergvall Bentacur Sarr
Kudus Muani Simons

2-0 win for me

Up the Spurs !!

🔵 Tottenham Champions League Press Conference

Speakers: Thomas Frank (Head Coach) & Cristian Romero (Captain)
Occasion: Matchday -1 ahead of UCL game vs Villarreal

Thomas Frank

  • First Champions League Game:
Special moment for him, excited for the anthem and atmosphere, but insists preparation remains "business as usual."
  • Squad Ambition:
Believes Spurs have a fantastic squad capable of competing at the highest level. Goal: “one game at a time.”
  • On Villarreal:
Praises coach Marcelino for creating a structured, organized, possession-based side. Expects a tough test.
  • Bournemouth Defeat:
Admits it was a “bad performance” and he didn’t help players enough with tactical planning. Learned from it.
  • UCL Format:
Open-minded about the new format; finds it promising but focuses only on immediate matches.
  • Journey from Brentford to Spurs in UCL:
Reflects on the leap from Griffin Park in the Championship to Champions League nights at one of the world’s best stadiums.
  • Tactical Preparation:
Spurs follow guiding defensive and offensive principles but tweak depending on opponent (video sessions, walkthroughs, etc.).

Cristian Romero

  • Facing Juan Foyth (Argentina teammate):
Calls him a “great guy” and “top player.” Special reunion but hopes Spurs prevail.
  • Defensive Strength:
Credits stability from playing together, defensive coach’s work, and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Captaincy Role:
First time as official captain. Sees himself as a unifier, inspired by leaders in Argentina NT. Emphasizes family spirit and togetherness.
  • Future at Spurs:
Never wanted to leave. Happy at the club, feels Spurs is a “family.” Extension decision under Frank reaffirmed commitment.
  • On Daniel Levy Leaving:
Thankful to him for bringing him to Spurs. Wishes him well, but stresses progress depends on the whole club pulling together.
  • Lionel Messi & Argentina WC Defense:
Believes Messi is fit and expects him at the World Cup. Calls him “the biggest player in history.” Focus remains on Spurs first.
  • Leadership Style:
Admits it’s hard to keep all players happy but stresses harmony and shared objectives.
  • Aggressive Reputation:
Says it’s his Argentine style of defending, not malice. Loves the game, defends badge and teammates. Won’t change his approach.

Other Notes

  • Squad Fitness:
    • Dominic Solanke: progressing, but not ready for Villarreal.
    • Randal Kolo Muani: fit, available, could play full 90 if needed.
  • Team Spirit:
Romero highlights positive atmosphere under Frank, blending young players with experienced leaders.
  • Season Goals:
Success = competing at the highest level, fighting for trophies, realistic but ambitious.
  • Training Fun:
Romero did press-ups in training as punishment for losing the ball. Keeps morale high before big games.

👉 Overall tone: Optimistic, respectful of Villarreal, grounded in preparation.
Frank focuses on tactical discipline and progression; Romero emphasizes unity, leadership, and his natural combative style.

Great that we had such an easy game on Saturday and could play the last half hour in first gear.

Great game management and use of the squad by the manager.

We’re looking forward to welcoming you on Tuesday as Champions League football returns to N17 with the visit of Villarreal.

Building on those unforgettable occasions in the latter stages of our successful Europa League campaign last season, we’re once again joining up with independent supporter group THFC Flags to deliver a fantastic visual display to kick off a new European adventure.

Synonymous with the biggest occasions at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, an awe-inspiring tifo will display in our famous South Stand as we build towards kick-off.

You will find your reusable tifo bag on your seat when you arrive. As the players walk out of the tunnel, please hold your bag up with the plain side facing towards the pitch – and continue to hold it up for the entirety of the UEFA anthem.

To complement this spectacular visual, a display of large flags will be waved across the lower tier of the East Stand, organised by THFC Flags.

We are also encouraging fans to wear something white – such as your favourite home shirt from down the years – to create a sea of Lilywhite in the stands.

After the display, please retain your 100% recyclable bag to reuse or keep as a souvenir from the match.
