*** OMT Tottenham v Marine - FA Cup 3rd round ***

I think good goalies are as rare as good centrebacks and cost a massive transfer fee. This is probably the most important seasons for years in terms of our future development, a trophy and qualification to CL might stimulate a big investment, failure of either would be a disaster and see our manager leave and more years of trying to punch above our weight.
Yes CL would be a great platform to build on and give us some stimulus in the market but it looks like it will be an open scrap this season.
Re keepers, like most things the attention and analysis probably makes reputations flimsier than in the past. Personally I lean towards steady types rather than more enigmatic ones.

Satisfied with the win. But really expected us to win by 7 or 8 goals ! We played well in the first half to lead 4-0. Thought we could get another 3 or 4 goals in the second half. But we were poor in the second half and didn't look like scoring apart from the goal by 16 year old Devine.

Marine almost embarassed us and Hart first when they hit the post with the score being 0-0 early in the first half. Credit to Vinicius, Moura and Devine for the goals. Vinicius did well to get the hattrick but he also became greedy and wasted a good chance in the second half which he should have passed instead of trying to score from difficult angle.

It was a good freekick by Moura for his goal but wish he can score like that in the league. Devine did well to score on his debut but he should not get carried away as most Spurs youngsters who had scored on their debuts have struggled in the past.

One disappointing thing about this win is the failure of Alli and Bale to score. They both badly need the goals to improve their form. When Bale came on in the second half, thought he could get a goal or two but he didn't look like scoring apart from a freekick which he hit straight at the goalie.

One thing enjoyable about this match was that Marine never troubled us apart from the 1 shot which hit the post. Wish we can have more easy matches like these in the Cup competitions. Let's hope we will get another favourable draw in the next round.

I'd give you my point of view

- We dealt with the expected rush at the beginning for them (adrenaline dump), hence the Toby/Davies being there
- Once we rode that, we put pressure on them, very quickly put 4 past them and game was over.
- This game was a PR masterclass by Spurs, no need to smash them 8 or 9 nil, we won, protected right players, they get their plucky day in the sunshine.
- Dele had one of his better games, he was asked to play deeper (creator), by time Bale came on, we had no creativity, he's off an injury, pitch was not great (I do agree he needs to start upping a gear)

Squad realities

- Vinicius is doing everything that can be expected of him when given a chance.
- Moura is a very good player in the cups.
- We need more in midfield, Dele/Gedson played the CM role yesterday but it shows how bare our options are for creativity once Ndombele or Gio is not there
- Devine, Clark, White need to go the Skipp path, train with us, get the occasional game to where we can truely judge talent, then get them a playing loan at appropriate level.

These are the games Jose has us do a job, be professional, win and move on.

I know it didnt effect the game but I thought Mike Oliver was very sympathetic towards them, he let a lot go and gave them a couple of soft free kicks.

Another problem with the FA Cup, referees try and even it up by letting brick go, the one that tinkled me off was just before half-time, we were awarded a FK on the edge of our area for a foul on Rodon (probably by the fat lad they played up front), their left sided midfielder spanked the ball 50 yards away out of frustration and didn't get a yellow for it.

Easy enough win and its good to see the likes of Devine and White getting a good run. Was impressed with how Rodon played and he looks a natural, early days and the opposition were not that good but he stood up to being pushed around by their CF and gave it back.

Had an email from the Chairman of Marine today… as did 30,000 others.

VIRTUAL TICKET THANK YOU - MARINE FC 12 MONTHS ON - PROMOTION IN 1ST SEASON

Good Evening,

I write this the week following our promotion from Step 8 to Step 7 of the football pyramid – promotion in our first season since our famous FA Cup run. I would like to thank all virtual ticket buyers who have helped completely transform our proud club over the last 18 months. The transition has been immense, and we are on a journey.

Our crowds have increased from an average of 400 to an average of 1,200. We have spent £250k completely renovating our clubrooms. We are investing £500k into a new 3G pitch which is being constructed as we speak and will be finished in time for the new season. This has all meant our revenues have increased dramatically from where they were, and we can compete on a completely different scale compared with pre-Covid. Further to that, our community engagement and activities have increased in a big way supporting many different groups within our local area.

We aren’t stopping there though and have plans to grow the fan base further. Plans to increase the revenues further. To grow our community efforts further. To expand our stadium capacity. We have transformed the structure of the club with the appointment of a General Manager, Community Director who are helping to drive the club forward along with our great manager, Neil Young who really is the best in the business. We are looking for more businesses to get involved in our newly formed Exec Club. If there are any people or businesses out there who want to help push us forward as a club please e-mail me on james@marinefc.com. I will work with every person or business to see how each wants to get involved.

The last 18 months has been a blur. Mad off the pitch and mad on it. This season has been excellent. We got to the 4thqualifying round of the FA Cup, playing billionaire owned Wrexham who were 3 levels above us. We were 1-0 up and seconds away from reaching the 1st round proper for the 2nd time in 28 years (the other was last season!) when unfortunately, we conceded a late free kick and subsequently lost the replay. It didn’t detract though from another excellent FA Cup run. In the league we achieved promotion through the play-offs. A Neil Kengni (who hit the crossbar against Spurs) hat-trick sent us through from the play-off semi-final followed by a play-off final win last Saturday against Runcorn Linnets. The scenes at the end were incredible and will live me forever. The celebrations after the goals and post-match can be found on the following link;
I have attached some photographs of our club now. It is a great place to be and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for your support which has changed our world. I am sure most of you will be aware but we have installed a Virtual Wall at the stadium containing the names of the 32,202 people who purchased a virtual ticket. Feel free to come to the club at any time to see it and introduce yourself.

Feel free to get in touch with me direct with any questions

Wishing everyone a great summer and look forward to hopefully seeing you next season.

Many Thanks,

James Leary
