It's too predictable and teams have cottoned on to this. Kane and Son are our biggest threat, negate them in the counter and we'll offer very little else.

At the other end of the pitch we'll give teams plenty of chances and so it's a law of averages that eventually after 9 corners one of them will lead to a goal for Wolves. Especially as we have conceded/struggled from set pieces late on Vs Palace, Liverpool, Saudi Sportswashing Machine, West Ham and now tonight.

brick.

That 3-3 draw/defeat against West Ham has a LOT to answer for. Before that match, we were scoring for fun...scored 6 against United, 5 against SCBC, and 3 against West Ham. We then appear to have decided that attacking is something that isn’t for us.

what’s worse is that Liverpool dropped points earlier in the day by not finishing a team off. So we lost chance to catch up with them whilst having failed to learn from their immediately prior example.

Realistically, we are now 7th. We have gone from top to seventh inside four matches. And at least two of those matches, we could have killed the game off but sat back too much. Ah well...football.

You have to feel for the defence. Fingers will be pointed but we were woeful in possession. Ndombele and Hojberg should the pivot and Dele in front of them. Tell Kane to be the focal point more often and keep Son on the left side of him. Be brave enough to rotate or sub Kane and Son occasionally.
If we want to defend corners for the majority of the game let’s have a look at Rodon instead of Sanzhez.

Sanchez was fine tonight.

Do you really think it is sustainable to invite pressure like that for 90 mins, and rely solely on making absolutely *no* defensive mistakes?

yeah, look at Jose's palmares, he's become one of the all-time greats doing exactly that

How many goals have we scored in our last few PL games? 1,0, 2, 1, 0, 1. To me it is clear where our problems lie.

Was Davies under solid pressure for 90 minutes? It wasn't pretty (again) but we were in control.

Yeah it was Jose's tactics that led to Davies not defending at the corner.

If you sit back on a 1-0 lead, there is always a chance a player switches off or makes a mistake. Especially if they’re tired having been attacked for pretty much 90 mins. Players aren’t robots so you can’t rely on them to be perfect.

We looked good for 20 mins and then fell back. That’s ridiculous stuff, you can’t win games like that and I’m not sure Jose ever did. We have some great attacking options and we did not threaten their goal once. That’s no way to play football.

Im starting to doubt Jose hugely. He either can’t motivate the players or has brick tactics.

I'll retreat into the west if Jose has told Davies to let his man run free from the corner

Of course he didnt, but if you sit back for 90 mins there's always a chance the opposition will score, whether from a moment of brilliance, mistake or sheer weight of pressure

Absoloute gonad*s, they're doing what the manager wants, get in front, sit deep and defend the lead - if you defend a 1 nil lead you're leaving yourself open to a "sucker punch" although it was anything but

Odd, I don’t think the manager said to Davies lose your man at a corner

Sanchez was fine tonight.
He was, just a few dodgy clearances but not to blame for their goal, but he’s not assertive enough for me, especially in a team that looks to give up the ball. Rodon is a bigger guy so may help us defend these set pieces we keep conceding from.

we beat Southampton and United with exactly the same setup as tonight, the difference was that Kane and Son actually put some effort in on those days

That 3-3 vs West Ham is to blame for all of this.

In his eyes the players can't be trusted to be let loose so this is the result. Until we prove we can defend/buy defenders, this team won't be allowed to attack in numbers.
This. We were playing some nice football back then but this miss by Bale not only shattered his now fragile confidence it’s caused Mourinho to revert to parking the bus as our defence went full sexy.
