Poch had the first half performance he wanted to see. Then saw the result he most wanted. Job done. Got the tall boy off in case he nodded one in by accident.
I agree the flick was decent, but to call him great in first half is crazy. I recollect him giving the ball away a lot in both halves. I seldom criticise Spurs players, but I do think he was poor and it's not like I'm expecting him to be anywhere near Kane's level....Sorry, again disagree. First-half he was great. Flick set Son free, lots of good first time touched and layoffs which we increasingly failed to read, second-half he became isolated and we did not play close enough to him. Add to that the fact we did not put crosses in until he was subbed and I think he was an easy target:

I haven't seen him do anything any better than VJ or soldado, yet he's get lauded and they get slaughtered.
I know he's not played much, but he has more game time in this league they they had when they came here.
Some of our squad still lack self-focus. If one of Kane, Jan or Lloris was out there, we close it out because they do not allow such drifts. Dier tried at 2-2 but we had already drifted too far down the road of complacency.

On Llorente, the decision to sub him was a little strange I thought considering the inevitable direct ball strategy that was sure to happen. I thought Son was having such a hard time controlling the ball all night that he would surely get hooked first. But more baffling was the lack of crosses when Llorente was on the pitch compared to when he left. Llorente is our plan B guy and when we enact plan B you would like to see him on the pitch rather than looking on from the bench.
I thought that sub was mistake by Poch but I'm not sure he'll lose too much sleep over it. He doesn't appear to give a fudge about this cup really, which is disappointing as it would have been the easiest route to silverware this season. The 'league cup vs CL qualification' argument will come up again (and again) but one does not preclude the other so I rarely pay any attention to that line of thinking. When one of the usual suspects win the league cup again this year will that mean their season is over?
I truly believe we need to win a trophy this year or next if we want to keep this team together. Winning any trophy is hard but each one you do win makes the next one easier. The hardest is the first one, but that first win is so critical for the believe it instills in the team and mindset of the team going forward. It doesn't matter what you win IMO just that you win something.
In saying all that I don't think we did a massive amount wrong(or right). The desire seemed to be missing from the off IMO, our two goals not withstanding.
Top lad. Triffic in the air.
Is Llorente any good at heading a ball then?
He's SLIGHTLY better than Eriksen

If only you were our chairman cum manager, the world would be perfect. What? He sat immobile on his bench with his cheeks puffed out until we were *already* 3-2 down. He didn't do anything at all until we had *already* folded - and then he took off our tall striker and subsequently made us cross into the box at every opportunity for some inexplicable reason.
That isn't the best reading of yesterday, imo.

With the losing mentality on display against Wet Spam we'll not play at Wembley for a very long time...I am fully on board with the frustration felt at the manner of the defeat on Wednesday night, it was a capitulation reminiscent of the dark days of the nineties and early 2000s. However, with Man Utd, Emirates Marketing Project Chelsea and Arsenal still in the competition to say it was an easy route to Wembley is simply wish ful thinking.
Well, Arsenal at home V West Ham in the Quarter finals. We should thank West Ham then for saving us the ultimate humiliation. Arsenal are Cup specialists nowadays and we have lost our last 3 Cup matches to them. With our unconvincing Cup performances under Pochettino, just can't see us beating any of the top 6 teams in the Cups now.
But then, we should forget about Arsenal and Chelsea. West Ham are our real London rival nowadays. In the last 4 years, they have destroyed our league title chances twice and beaten us in Cup matches twice as well. In both the Cup matches, we played at home and they came from behind to beat us ! And don't forget about the Lasagna gate match in which they destroyed our CL place in 2006 also. If we cannot play our best players against West Ham from now on, then we should not bother turning up for the match at all.
This. Whether we like it or not, it is imperative we become CL regulars. This will increase our cash flow and raise our profile, which will allow us to attract the caliber of players that will in turn allow us to continue challenging for the league and CL. Some might say this is just the Arsenal model, but I don't think we're aspiring to be that. We're aiming higher. But for pete's sake, these things take time. It's not thinking we're too big for them, it is about priorities. We have to prioritise the league, finishing in the top four is worth more to the club than winning either of the domestic cups. The big teams do not take the cups seriously until the semi-finals, Ferguson had a far stronger squads than us and that made it easier for him to get there whilst putting out weakened sides.
I guess it will depend on whether 1st place in the group is at stake.I wonder if we qualify before the last game against APOEL whether he will play the reserves, what with December being a busy month and all.
