OMT *** Tottenham Hotspur v Newport County A.F.C *** FA Cup 4th round

I’d say we’ve looked stale on and off all season. Not only in games we have drawn or lost (for example, West Brom, West Ham) but also in some we’ve won (for example, Palace and Swansea).

We’ve also continued to look mentally fragile during some big moments - for example the League Cup loss to West Ham, the game against City and last night.

Hence the reason the upcoming run is so important. It will tell us a lot about what this team has learned, and where Poch is as a tactician when pitted against the very best.

We've tended to be slow starters under Poch, only hitting form around Christmas and then having a strong second half of the season.

I think this season has been following that pattern but we've had more injuries and playing all of our games away from home to contend with.

Out last two games have both been in bricky conditions and on bricky pitches. No excuses, we should be able to cope with that but it does partly explain why we have struggled.

Eriksen played a blinder in a couple of lower league games... was it Hearts and Sheff Utd? I can never remember these crappy teams

Quality players can play no matter the pitch. The Amsterdam Arena although a modern stadium used to have one of the worst pitches around. Also some of the teams in the top league of the Eredivisie have pitches and stadiums much like Newport county. he got two up at Sheffield United in the League Cup.

But he has not been playing that well lately. Hence why we really need some alternate options.

Lucky, lucky, lucky. We were so bad we are very fortunate indeed to still be in this season's FA Cup. We were really dreadful in the first half. Why wasn't Poch up off his seat encouraging, berating and generally getting our players up for the game. He seems frozen by inactivity.

Poch also got the selection all wrong. It just shows how light in creativity we are. What was he thinking playing KWP on the left when he patently hasn't got a left foot. I can't believe how many of our supposedly top quality players are so one footed - Lamela, Sissoko, Trippier, Rose, Davies. What do they do in training week after week to improve their swinging foot. It beats me how players can rise to that level and have such a poor second foot.

It is really fortunate that Kane rescued us from two corners in both the last two games. We really aren't playing well and need new recruits urgently to freshen things up in our squad.

One thing I was surprised by yesterday...Poch put a strong physical side out. It was designed to be strong, physical, robust and perhaps more direct. Our biggest mistake was trying to play football. It is a point of development for squad and manager, the ability to occasionally switch philosophies and styles when the moment demands. We needed more direct play yesterday. In Europe, we have done superbly to adapt our game to beat the big big teams. We are learning. We are getting there.

Lamela is the epitome of one footed...disgraceful for a top player.

You could be right - hope so. I’m really looking forward to the next month. It’s great to be in there with these big games, all meaning something.

After some of the other dogbrick performances out there and you choose to criticize Sissoko?
Obviously you didn't read the post.
It wasn't,t about how well or bad Sissoko played or who played worse. I,m pointing out that this player does not exactly inspire confidence to the Team. He plays every game and I'm suggesting we could do better and get better results!
Anyway..LOL I want us to be there with the best...don't you? It's an oppinion and an important and honest one!

The affect of Eriksen being out has been amplified by the fact neither Lamela and Winks have been available either, bar a breif cameo in the Saints game from Lamela (which coincided with two or three good goal scoring opportunities)

Not sure yesterdays conditions would have served Eriksen well tbf
This. We lacked "footballers" on the pitch. Sure we matched up physically, but all of our players with ability on the ball were out. I always think whilst it's important not to get bullied in these types of games, you need to play some technically superior footballers to really show the gulf. Eriksen and Lamela usually shine in these games, and at a canter.

I also wonder what goes on in training, not just here but at many club's, why is Ronaldo one of the best players--- because he works at it in training
stay after training for 20-30 mins working on your poor foot, or work on your free kicks, on your vision for pass, its down to the player & the coaches

Surely any teams dossier is just let Sissoko have the ball, I mean he is so much worse than everyone else right?

Still should have been enough to beat a team from league 2. Maybe certain prem footballers are extremely lucky to be playing at the highest level. Maybe some league 2 players would also do a good job in the prem

It's like that with any profession. People that work overtime generally earn more and are better at their jobs.

Where I wouldn't really work overtime as I work to live and not the other way round
