Phew. Bit of a laboured first half, but we're still in it, thank GHod.
- I said in the 'Defence' thread that we still concede chances every game, despite tightening up in general from our historical average - today, we saw what that leads to when you face a clinical opponent. Not quite a defensively watertight side yet.
- We had to get Son on the field, given his performance against Stoke - unfortunately, that's come at a cost to us, since we lack a ball-carrier in midfield and we lack a DM alongside Dier to prevent the sort of turnovers that led to Monaco's attacks down the middle. Alli's flitted in and out, but he hasn't replaced either Dembele or Wanyama.
- The extra pitch space has put us in a bit of a bind - we can't press high up because there's too much ground to cover, so we're evidently trying a middle block like Klopp's Liverpool. But we're not used to it, and it shows.
- Having said all that, Monaco look vulnerable. They aren't impenetrable. Bakayoko, Lemar and Silva are dangerous on the counter, but I feel like we can probably press them a bit more in the second half without undue fear, as long as we don't concede silly turnovers of possession on the half-way line. We can still win this.
- Come on you f*cking Spurs!
