***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Monaco***

Where are my panic buying brethren who were there with me on that famous day of battles to get online to buy tickets for tonight? Hoping to catch up with some of you tonight, at some stage. That kinda applies to everyone on here. Feel like we should have a social for this site.

Anyone say up in Block 240 row 8 tonight?

It's going a much tougher test tonight when you compare them to last years Monaco team
Watched them play around two or three weeks ago and they were much better than PSG.
No easy game peeps

Anti fudging social some people! Say to them about the game, they just grunt back. Hope it was none of you lot

We'll have 550 extra square meters to exploit!

How will that affect our game? Will we manage the press, not press all game or so high? Will be play on the front foot - take the game to them - and exploit the greater space. I hope so, I think that is the best option!

Interesting facts

- We have trained on Wembley as normal
- One of the players mentioned two of the pitches at our training facility was setup to match Wembley and they have been practicing there as well.

"Pochettino has highlighted in the past how White Hart Lane is one of the smallest playing surfaces in the Premier League and there have been theories about how it can stifle Tottenham against opponents who sit deep and mass players behind the ball. The Wembley pitch is five metres longer and two metres wider, which may not sound like much but, when it is put another way, the difference is 545sq m – which does sound significant.

The bottom line is Pochettino inhabits a world in which the finest of margins can make the difference. And so, in the countdown to Tottenham’s big night, he has trained on two pitches that replicate the 105m x 69m dimensions of the national stadium. They have alternated between them, Pochettino said, in order to look after the grass.

“Wembley is a little bit bigger and this can help the teams that play along the grass and keep possession,” Pochettino said. “Teams that build from the back, like us, have more space, more possibility to play and it’s more difficult for the opponent to press you. We believe in the way we play and this is a good chance to play on a big pitch. We need to adapt our game.”

Pochettino said his squad’s routine would not change; they will arrive at the stadium three-and-a-half hours before the kick-off and there will be a “very nice room” for the team meeting. The traffic problems around the ground may not be as severe as those at White Hart Lane, he added with a smile.

The excitement is mounting. “We trained today with the Champions League balls and the bibs with the Champions League on, and it’s difficult to describe the feeling,” Pochettino said.

The club is making every effort to smooth the transition; to create a home from home while White Hart Lane is deemed to fall foul of Uefa’s regulations because of building work.

The supporters have been urged to dress in all-white, while the Wembley arch will be lit in lily white and Tottenham Ladies players will hand out flags to youngsters in the upper tier. Happily for lovers of overblown pre-match montages, the montage from White Hart Lane will play on the giant screens. On a practical note, fans have been advised to get there early.

Nothing will truly prepare Pochettino and his players for the moment when they depart the dressing room to be assaulted by the colour and noise of what could be the largest home attendance in English club history. Tottenham anticipate around 85,000; the record is the 84,467 who watched Emirates Marketing Project’s FA Cup sixth-round tie against Stoke City at Maine Road in 1934.

“I can’t really imagine what will happen in the moment when we walk from the tunnel to the pitch,” Pochettino said. “It will be an emotional moment.”

I've wondered about this. On the one hand, we have more space to play in, which will do wonders for our attacking play. On the other, more space means we can't press as viciously.

So we will be playing our our first CL match in 5 years ! Glad we are playing at home as we don't have good record away in Europe recently. This could be a tricky match against Monaco. We did beat them 4-1 in EL last season. So, they will be fired up to get revenge on us. It is going to be interesting how the players will adapt to playing at a packed Wembley.

Our attacking players are going to be key for us winning this match. It is good that players like Kane, Alli and Son scored their first goals of the season against Stoke last week. We have to make use of all the chances we get in front of goal. Lamela scored 4 goals against Monaco home and away in EL last season. So hope he will start and have another good match against them.

I think this match will be won or lost in midfield. We have to control the midfield from start to overcome them. We cannot afford to let Monaco control the midfield. With us having many options in midfield, Pochettino has to find the right combination to get the midfield going. I won't mind if we rest players like Dier and Alli and start with more experienced players like Dembele, Wanyama and Sissoko in midfield. We need a good performance from Eriksen as well.

Our defence did well against Monaco last season. Hope they will have another error-free match this time. Lloris, Alderweireld and Vertonghen will have to be alert all the time to stop Monaco. Want them to concentrate on safety-first defending. They should not get too ambitious or complacent near our goal area. Will be disappointed if we don't keep the clean sheet against Monaco.

This is going to be a tough match. But hope the team will turn up with the right mentality and get our first CL win of the season.

Any "t e a m n e w s" yet ?

Regardless of who starts, hope all the players will handle well the pressure of playing at a big and packed stadium like Wembley. It is going to be a tense match but hope we will get the all-important win.

THFC team: Lloris (C); Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Dier, Alli; Lamela, Eriksen, Son; Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Carter-Vickers, Wanyama, Dembele, Sissoko, Janssen

Awesome! Didn't think Poch would go with this more attacking setup. But it was the one I favored. After we scored 3 goals on the weekend with it, it makes sense. Alli or Eriksen in CM? No doubt some rotation between them whoever starts in the middle.
