*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Juventus ***

Allegri took decisive action when things clearly werent working. Poch stood there like a rabbit in the headlights. Difference between top European pedigree and the perennial also-rans
Nonsense. It was the difference in experience in key positions that cost us. Really disappointed with Trippier and Sanchez. Poch will get this right. Not sure what is going on with Alderweireld’s injury.

I wish people would stop saying this tbh. It doesn't matter if Juve are a top team. We were the better team in both matches. We were the better team over the tie. I would genuinely be less upset if they'd done what bayern do to Arsenal and just beat us 5-1 both legs. Then you say yep, they're a different level and we're out, fair enough, let's not over-react.

But that wasn't the case. We were the better team. And it doesn't matter if we're playing against a mix of Bayern, Juve, Real and Barcelona, if we were the better team, I'd still want and expect us to go through, even if on paper, the other team are better.

We're growing as a team, as a manager but we need to get smarter. We've got quite a few major milestones we still need to overcome. And we need to do them soon. And the reason I say that is that unfortunately I don't think that progress is linear unfortunately. Players will leave, some will lose form, other teams will improve. We need to grab our chance while its here. Ferguson used to say that teams come in cycles and you need to refresh every few years. I just want us to get the maximum out of this team while we still have it.

They are a top team and we didn't turn up and they dictated the play. How can you say that we were the better team when the score does not lie?

Did they get lucky? No.

Galling. Their manager made changes and ours didn't respond. You could see the momentum shift like a tide turning and it was obvious they were going to score a second but we carried on treading water in those crucial minutes. Pochettino talks a lot about learning from these sorts of things. Let's see.

Does he not improve year on year already?

Didnot see the game....by the sound of it our full backs were lacking! No Walker runs and I bet rose did not play.
All in all maybe not our best 11 out there?

Hmm, I'd say it was probably our best 11 out there tbh. Alderweirald obviously nonwithstanding. Rose is a toss up now considering he's spent much of the season injured/ worse than Davies.

Were they all playing offside bar Davies who played him on? I have to see the replay again to be sure, but I thought I saw Trippier having a go at Davies after the goal telling/asking why he wasn't pushed up.
Definitely. Just seen a replay - Davies sees their RW step forward and goes a few yards back. However, I think Dybala would still have been onside, just - the pass and run were timed to perfection.

Just watched it again. Trippier plays him onside, never mind Davies. Very good forward play.

I like your post mate but I disagree with one point which is that we have a few major milestones to overcome. We have one imo, we need our players to keep focussed in the big games. Unfortunately in games like this trippiers’ lack of defensive quality and Sanchez’s inexperience cost us today.

People are so keen to make a bigger issue out of something than it really needs to be - it's knockout football, we lost to a good team in a close fought tie and arguably looked the better side
We lost to a good team? By the comments on here they were kicking lumps out of us?

Exactly right. We got done by a team who know how to do that. We lost concentration and lost the game. Not everything is a bottle job.

I think the difference today, was it was not the players themselves, but Poch and the management. Small margins, but maybe we walker and toby playing we see that out. Or if we make a sharp sub at 60 and sit deep when then changed shape, we see it out.

We played the better, had Juve well in our grasp, that's why its so frustrating. Poch needs to get our defensive foundation back. We can't concede 4 goals in the tie and expect to win. In short they defended better than us.

When we are 1-0 up with 30 mins or so to go we should be making the first change, to make them respond. When they score goal and gain momentum we should slow down play, go to ground, bring on a sub -break play up. We need to learn how to win ugly.

And very poor defending. I think an onform Alderweireld stops Dybala there.

I think a lesson we can learn from Juventus there is that maybe just chop the player down, rugby tackle him, whatever. Even if we got a man sent off for it. Because then the score stays 1-1 and we can do the backs to the wall defensive job for 30 minutes and scrape through the tie.

He definitely needs to learn to respond more quickly. i was watching him on the touchline and for 10-15 minutes he looked like he didn't know what to do - and we obviously hadn't covered their formation change in pre-match preparation.

To win the Fa cup he will have to outfox Mourinho or Conte, maybe both. I know he has done it in the league but it's different in knock-out football. These elite managers just know what it takes to win when it matters. Allegri showed it again tonight

Wait, what? When did they dictate the play?

They are a top team, yes.
We played better than them for 165 minutes of the 180 minutes of the tie.
We switched off for 15 minutes and they punished us ruthlessly.

That is the difference between playing the likes of Juve and even teams like Arsenal. The difference between league football and knockout football. We need to be much more clever in knockout ties.

I think Poch has to look at how he makes subs. Has to. It's his only real weakness imo.

The best managers are on their toes in a game like this. Wanyama has got a sweat on warming up. Moura too. Shi1 changes, and bang they are on to play a counter attacking game.

Agreed. I thought Davies was superb, at least offensively.
