OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v AZ 13.03.2025 **

So what you're saying is that you don't mind the stats, as long as they are in line with your view.
"but they could have scored bla bla bla"
Yeah, and so could we. Doesn't change anything. The stats show what actually happens.
If my aunt had a dingdong etc....

The result shows what actually happened. Not a pretty picture.

The league doesn't lie. The league says we're brick.

You want to polish the turd go ahead.

Yes, and to be clear I'm not trying to suggest our performances have been great - I'm just curious as to why we never take a beating. And absolutely agree there have been results where could have been worse, but there have been performances where could have been better too especially earlier in the season.

It's all well and good saying we would have conceded more if not for this or that, but we could also have scored more were it not for keepers/defenders performing well against us. But just find it quite a curious stat, appreciate the response....
It's a strange stat alright. It's not the full explanation but, to be fair, we could have been battered by Everton away, Chelsea at home and Villa in the cup just off the top of my head. I didn't see the Bournemouth game but from what I've heard, we could have taken a pasting there too. Sometimes, it's been dumb luck that's prevented us getting a hiding.

No, that's not what I'm saying.

I really don't mind the Xg stat but it is just an arbitrary guide that attributes quality of chances created based on various factors. It's not full proof.

My post was mostly in response to a question asked by @harr1984 about why, despite our troubles, we haven't lost many games by more than a goal.

Obviously, it can work the other way too. Leicester away, Saudi Sportswashing Machine home and away, Wolves at home are games we should have won on chances created.

We could have been battered in a few games but wasn't, in isolation could say it's luck but when it happens a good few times you have to wonder how good the chances really are and when you look at the xGA ours is in line with 'better' teams despite our heavy weighting to attack.

Anyway was just asking the question, wasn't trying to imply we are playing well because of this. Just would love to have some more in depth insight into it, as for two seasons straight there has only been a couple of occasions where we've been properly beaten in the PL despite the hung ho way we tend to operate.....

I don't mind the Xg stat but it can be a bit misleading. In recent weeks (Ipswich, City , AZ, Bournemouth) we are giving up a lot of quality chances very early in the games. We may create our own chances later on which even out the Xg but that doesn't change the fact that we could have been 3 down if not for profligate finishing and of course big Vic!
Late goals when the game is dead (Chelsea at Home, Everton away, Villa in the cup) can make batterings look like close games.
Bournemouth have destroyed us twice without the result to show it. Palace and Galatasaray away could also have been very ugly.

So that's why some, myself included have been regularly alarmed by our performances and the chances we cough up even if the results don't ultimately show it.

Summary if needed, it's bad

Why 2 keepers on the bench, we must have another fit outfield player available? I know Bentancur is suspensed, Are Danso and Wener injured. And what about young Damola Ajayi. wheres he?

edit: ahhh. just seen Werner and Ajayi not registered and Dano injured I believe...fair enough then

Its a good line-up. We have managed some late dramatic winners over the last few seasons. Who could be our Eriksen, Hjojberg, Kane or Moura tonight?
