*** OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Atletico Madrid ***

100%

Either have the tech and use it consistently.
Or don’t bother having it.

Clearly a foul. They just didn’t want to pull it back as it’s not something that commonly happens, but that’s kind of the point of var.

I’m genuinely like…so close to being a proper anti VAR nut job. I never have been until this season but the lack of consistency is just insane. It is ruining football and renders so many of the games pointless.

And it’s not all about us but, we showed up, we prepared, we were willing to bring the fight, we needed a big performance tonight and held up our end of the bargain. But at a crucial moment, we should have a free kick outside their box. But it’s not called, not reviewed and they go up the other end and score. It’s game over there. For a clear as day foul, which is so obviously against the rules.

What is the point of all the preparation leading up to the game? What is the point of the effort of the players? Obviously everyone still makes money because the contractual obligations have been fulfilled in showing the game, but it’s total rubbish. If we can be done over by something blatantly against the rules because the lads in the truck can’t be bothered to call something as blatant as that and just do their jobs, we might as well all pack up.

Matches are being decided based on how confidently the referees can be in not challenging their colleagues. It’s a ridiculous situation and needs to end. Utterly destroying the sport.

I think some fans have needed reminding that even with all our injuries, we have some good players. The idea that with our teams ability we should be flirting with relegation and fault doesn't lie at the managers door is nonsense, we are much better than we have shown this season.

Probably the best result for us realistically - a win, a good performance, and can now focus on the league which is of the utmost importance. Good vibes at the stadium, onwards and upwards...

So true on all counts.

Today was a bit unusual in that we obviously needed to throw caution to the wind and won’t play every game like that. But equally, we just need to beat Forest, Everton and Leeds at home. We should surely manage it playing like this.

Hopefully a confidence boost for the players, a unifying night for the fans, and overall a solid platform to get us to the end of the season.

This!!!!!!!!

See my comments in Interim Igor thread.

When we give the players the ball, when we allow them to play through the middle areas too, we have the talent.

Twice in a row -at Anfield and tonight - we have headed towards the 90th minute not having our reward. We continued to be brave, and continued to play football not sling-it-at-yer-head-ball. Twice we scored in the 90th min + and twice we ended the match undefeated! That's progress and confidence.

One other thing, I think the crowd tonight were excellent and if we bring that to Forest home on Sunday it's worth that final push when such a thing is needed...

I really hope people get off Simons case aswell. He’s not perfect. He’s learning. We have to embrace these players.
His attitude is first class for me. A few things...

1. He trained when the club gave the players 5 days off recently.
2. He apparently has his own specialists for fitness, analytics and nutrition and stuff. He takes his football seriously.
3. He had the balls to take the penalty tonight.
4. When he scored, his first thought was to get the ball back and try and get another.

He is also immensely skillful. The pass for Tel's chance is not only an incredible pass done first time at speed. It showed brilliant awareness.

We give this lad a proper chance, he'll be a player for us.

The latter is the vital piece for me. He’s not often passing backwards or sideways. So yes, he will give it away more frequently trying forward/threatening passes. But sometimes we will get the reward for that. And eventually he will fine tune that aspect and become more consistent.

How refreshing it was to see a Tottenham side go forwards, play on the front foot, and not pander to the threat posed by the opposition. Proper We Are Tottenham From The Lane stuff.

The team was setup to flow tonight. The defensive side was not perfect but if we play with that much fluidity Forest are going to find us a handful, especially with the crowd behind us.

We may also have our first choice backline available for the first time in a while, with Udogie and Porro at wb and Danso, Romero and VDV as back three. With the form of Sarr and Gray in front of them and the fire power we have in Xavi, Richie, Solanke and Muani, we need to blow forest away, and should.

Igor Tudors lilywhite army!

Well, they gave it a good go, but realistically, the tie was lost in the first 20 minutes of the game in Madrid.

I don't mind. Full focus now on Sunday, and there are definite positives to take into what's ahead from these last two outings.

So nice to have a Spurs fan presenting with a Tottenham player alongside her on TNT, rather than the usual mob of gobby Goons and Dippers on Sly Sports.

I been saying this all season. I will not believe that our players are that brick. It's managers covering their asses.

Play Simons with a team intent in attacking he will do well. Do the same with Tel, he will do well.

I do believe our centre backs can't be trusted. Their are too many mistakes in them. However, I do also believe inviting pressure and not playing on the front foot makes matters worse as you spend more time defending so more mistakes. We look better trying to play. That is a clear fact based on the fact we can't defend.

If we carry on line the last 1.5 games, we beat Forest. But if we drop Simons we lose the game cos he is key to transition. We drop Tel, we lose cos he is trying hard and actually playing well.

There’s so much negligence that’s been going on at the club this season.

Playing Gray out of position
Not having Tel in the UCL squad and acting like he doesn’t exist all too often
Not setting us up on the front foot and being overly consumed by the opposition

Those are just a few. Tonight we saw what happens when the team is set up in the right way. And we still have so many players yet to return.

If we approach the Forest match as we did tonight then we ought to feel confident of three points.

Oh and I was wrong about criticising the 3 at the back formation. I mean I wouldn’t have chosen us to play this way, but clearly it worked for us tonight.

I hope we have turned a corner, but it feels a tad early to reach that conclusion especially after a win at home in the Champions League which has given us so many false dawns this season. We will hopefully carry some momentum into Sunday but I am still concerned that we seem unable to keep clean sheets and give away goals too easily. Losing games in the league has become a habit under the last 2 managers. So we will get a better idea of where we are on Sunday. Looking forward to it more than a week ago though.

One huge standout thing again
We ran
We ran more and more and it made them uncomfortable
I refuse to believe that Frank didn’t have the team fit enough, that IMO would be something he would be in too from day one
So what’s changed to get that intensity up?

That's a hell of a statement, especially dropping Tel means we lose , I don't think that's necessarily the case.
