OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v aston villa

It is obvious we did not play at all well. But will AVB dare to change it?

I don't think we will win the game if we stay like this, surely from these players we can generate better play?

So many slow backwards passes, players not willing to turn and go forwards, just roll it back to the centre backs time after time so they can try a 40 yard pass and lose the ball.

The whole point of our 'comfortable, technical players' is that they can get the ball in tight areas, interplay, interchange... but they have been poor.

1. for f***'* sake get Ade back. we need someone to run the channels for Soldado. Soldado's first touch is excellent -but he never gets the ball in the box.
2. No width on the left - at all.
3. Paulinho +Sandro = no creativity. Stop being so cautious AVB put Eriksen next to Sandro -or Holtby.
4. if we ever play attractive football again I think it will be despite AVB rather than because of him.

It`s been a ****e game, but we are one up at half time at a difficult ground. Somewhat comfortably as well.

Can Lamela play on the left?? Think thats about the only thing we're missing right now going forward. just some pace wide left. Sigg's ok it just doesn't seem like this is the game for him. Would love our players to show a little more composure on the ball

BEAST.

we are winning ugly

would like to see a second goal because if it stays like this Lambert will simply throw on Bentekkers and then who knows what will happen

I hope AVB changes tactically at halftime, it's clear that we're being outnumbered in midfield and Siggy's and Soldado lack of pace is really allowing the Villa defense to condense the midfield even more. We need some pace introduced.

He can play on the left as much as Siggy can.

If anything, I'd put Townsend on the left and just ATTACK the full back, put Lamela on the right. Either drop Holtby deeper to play central or take him off for Eriksen/Dembele.

we have the players to though - just that playing two CMs who aren't ball players plus Siggy and Holtby means we're slow in possession and slow generally. We need a second winger, not Siggy

yep paulinho is clearly a good player a bit like dembele for me, but what do they actually offer apart from being solid, siggy is a goal threat but should be playing just off the main striker or we are to close across midfield.

I wanted holtby in the team but so far he is not playing well.

is it so risky to at least try....come on AVB

I think Spurs deserve their lead on balance, but this game is much tighter than I would like it to be.

We don't seem to be imposing ourselves on Villa quite as much as we should be.

though we had good possession it was pretty pointless most of the time. we still don't know how to play in the final third despite the wealth of talent there.
chiriches has looked very comfortable, but paulinho has looked average at best.
townsend easily heads and shoulders above everyone else out there today.

If we need fluidity, perhaps putting shifting Holtby a bit further back into Paulinho's spot and putting Eriksen on for Paulinho to occupy the now-vacant AM spot would do the trick. Likewise for width: perhaps putting Townsend on the left (his favoured crossing foot, apparently) and putting Lennon on for Siggy and having him on the right would give us pace and width on both flanks, stretching the game and making Villa wary of doing too much in our half for fear of a devastating break-away.

Proactive defense, basically. Although it's not all that bad now, slow, laboured play not withstanding.
