OMT The Mighty THFC vs Abu Dhabi City

I wouldn’t say he’s arrogant. But I definitely think him and Lloris think they can play when in reality, they are both very limited on the ball and should know where their skill set ends when it comes to distribution and range of passing.
He's arrogant, because he CAN pass, but he often gets sloppy, and it looks like he thinks he can do anything without much effort, but in reality he has to be totally switched on to make it work. He thinks he's better than he is. That's arrogance.

He’s capable of playing a great Hollywood ball like he did for Alli against Chelsea but in general I think he’s limited on the ball. Wanyama is superior in that area for me and overall is a better player

I am just on my way back from the game now.... I think I need to watch it again before I can make my mind up on which one of the two was worse today. I thought Dier wasn't far behind the two of them also. The game totally bypassed him. When we add Kompany having Kane in his pocket it is no wonder we lost.

I thought Emirates Marketing Project were very impressive today. All of their players are comfortable on the ball, their movement is excellent and they seem to have pace everywhere.
Pace pace and more pace hurt us

For all of city’s brilliant technical players it was the pace that hurt us the most again

I also prefer Wanyama to Dier. I also have a feeling that Dier doesn't win the ball back as often as he used to. Players just breeze past him now, without him being able to tackle or challenge.

This. We just stood off them tentatively for half an hour.
Poch said the most disappointing thing is that we didn't compete for the first half hour... that is on him; he must have given them clear instructions to explain if we were pressing or sitting deep, and he should motivate them properly before kickoff.

This is exactly it for me. Why do we start so many big games poorly? That is the question Poch urgently needs to address imo. And he needs to find the answer before Saturday.

Didn’t stand off united, arsenal or pool at home

Strange why we did it today cos we did and we’re tentative at bests

But we did give goal starts to Pool, City, Arsenal and Juve away by starting matches with no verve. We simply can't give good sides an easy early ride.

Never expected anything in this game. No way city were going to lose this or be allowed to lose it.
We were poor and let them play.
Really not sure what game ref was watching but was awful. Davies should have been off, was never a pen, ederson took the Mikey with time wasting and if Sanchez sending off early in the season for an arm is right then why wasn't Delph sent off.

Absolutely agree with these sentiments - it was so weird, we had a full week and were playing at 'home' under the lights against a physically and mentally tired city.

It was all there for us, to get right after them and press them to death, he picked Lamela so it seemed before kick off that would be exactly what we'd be doing.

And had we done so, I'm convinced we would have seen a totally different game and likely Spurs win.

Instead I do not know even now what the hell we did in that game, it was utterly pathetic. We were just there watching them play and then hiding in possession by largely just kicking it back to them.

I'm not concerned and disagree with some others that Poch does this a lot in the big games.

For me today was an isolated occurrence but still it was so damn bad from him, failing to do the bloody obvious, that he does deserve fierce criticism for the tactics employed last night imo.

What really annoyed me most about this game was how friendly it felt... Half time Dembele and Jesus went off laughing with their arms around each other. After the game we looked almost satisfied with the result. Kisses between Trippier and Sterling. fudge that.

I hope Poch smashes them during the week, because for me that result is down to the players work ethic and desire, not the managers decisions. It was a limp dingdong performance from just about everyone of them, maybe Vertonghen and Eriksen get a pass.

Bounce back with three points against Brighton and then let's go win a fudging trophy.

Sanchez is a liability. Just like Dier. Don’t rate either of them!

Oh come on GGG!!!
The liability this evening was Dembele. He was woeful for the first 25 minutes! He has to move the ball quicker against sides like that, and he was loose in possession. Davo was left exposed repeatedly by Trippier. The first goal was absolutely inexperience, give him another two years and you won’t ever see that. Again though, Hugo made a poor decision to sit off; he needed to come forwards at speed and involve himself!

Amazing how we see different things. Today, IMO, Dembele’s ineffective dithering and dribbling, not to mention sloppy possession, cost us big time. When Dier pushed forward a bit more he was very very effective simply because he released the ball!!!! Again, IMO. The other player whose poor form cost us today was Hazza. He is such a focal point for us when he plays that when he is “off” we really suffer. As for Davo, some inexperience but sold-out by poor DM coverage, not to mention the Sane overload. For me, we need to upgrade Moose. Flame away!

Is this a case of us simply needing better, more expensive players to play as well as we want?

Sanchez has a poor game I agree

But as a young player in can happen

Doesn’t help when your captain in goal couldn’t catch a cold though
Of course, I’m a fan of Sanchez. But when you’re doing match ratings you have to call it on the game he played, and there’s no way of dressing it up he was poor...

Can't blame Sanchez. Pochettino chose to play a high line. I was shocked when I saw that. Dier, Alli, Kane were poor. I am hoping that we pick the Son, Lamela, Eriksen, Moura quartet for the next game.

On Lloris, the penalty was not a penalty. I dislike John Moss with a passion especially after that Sunderland game last season.

I still think the root cause of yesterday's abomination was the tactics and I still don't understand what the tactics/general idea was from Poch.

Anyone hazard a guess?
