Very disappointing result.
But that is a team of ten internationals, all at very good level nations.
Plus one that many have been calling for to play.
Technically good enough to beat SCBC.

KWP
Sanchez
Moura should all be going into the game wanting to give Poch a selection headache of the good kind, not this kind.

Alli - the question mark is whether he can be a top top player. Skillful, yes. But can he do on a cold, windy day in Southampton?

No excuse for this loss. Shouldn't have happened. A few need to buck there ideas up big time.
Dele was just back from. 6 week hammy. He should have been given just over a half and then been subbed. and did you forget his assist for Kane?

As bad as this is, we still might be in the top four once all the other clubs finish their games this weekend (I know Chelsea have a game in hand). We can still control our destiny.

No need to go well diving.

Yet.

need someone like Hasenhutl to kick these primadonnas up the arse with a giant jackboot

Absolutely pathetic. Ok, we missed chances, but we simply can't defend. We relied on Dortmund missing chances in the week and we relied on Redmond missing chances today, which he did...but then others went and scored instead.

Rose was rubbish and Sanchez...rapidly losing faith in this boy, he's had an awful season and looks worse as time goes on. No presence, Redmond run off him for fun today, fortunately he has no end product. KWP just isn't really good enough, but I give him a pass, he's hardly played.

Dier did nothing to shore us up when Southampton started getting after us in the 2nd half, his passing was poor and he didn't show any defensive leadership. Sissoko wasn't good enough and Eriksen had 2 good moments -- chance he made for Kane and his free-kick. Other than that, I thought he was awful (again). Kane was wasteful, but he did score one of them, so half did his job. If the defenders do theirs, we win games like this.

Moura showed why Poch doesn't pick him. Had a decent first half, then 2nd half, about 50 mins, he plays a poor pass to Kane and his head drops. Sulked his way through the rest of the game, just a mentally weak player because he obviously has talent and athleticism.

Honestly, we should have it in us to grind out 1 nil wins in a game like this but we are just rubbish at the back (and again, we relied on Dortmund missing chances, we relied on Arsenal missing a penalty etc.) Toby on 1 leg is better than Sanchez right now.

We are throwing the league season into the bin. Poch needs to bench Sanchez, I'd also bench Rose after today. No more starts for Moura. I'd be tempted to drop Eriksen as well, just play Dele/Kane/Son up top and play 3 in midfield (Winks, Dier, Sissoko). Aurier at right-back, drop Rose so Davies on the left, Toby and Vert at centre-half.

Dele was good until he run out of energy, that's the only positive I can take. We were in a supposed title-race for all of 5 minutes, now we could end up finishing outside of the top 4 when it should have been a shoe-in. P1ss poor.

We all saw it coming, let’s be honest. There was just no way we were gonna’ beeeze into the top 4 this season. We’ve had some very lucky results and scraped through situations over and over. This was coming, this battle for top four will go to the wire.

Dont think it will mate.

The players will come out and do some interviews about how they are focused on it and in the next few matches they will run around with aggressive looks on their faces. But they have already decided in their heads it is not worth the effort.

I'm not saying he doesn't have quality - I said exactly the opposite.
That wasn't the point.
Nor was my post singling anyone else, it was talking about collective shortcomings.

Not seen it yet but sounds like we gave away another goal? Mistakes nearly every game. On a side note why are so many posters on here so keen for the opposition to score? Seen it many times over the years on here, "They're gonna score now", "2-1 coming", "Bet we concede", "We'll lose this now", etc. Lost count of the times people have said these things and bang a goal goes in. Could be nothing to do with the reality but happens so often I do wonder, some people seem like they want to be proved right. Sssssh! Rant over... :p

Yep.

I think we've changed the players and shape too much. At least in defensive. We got away with it at Dortmund, but we've not looked solid for 90 mins for a few games. Ironically first half today we did look solid.

Second half tireness, poor sub (moura off leaving Alli shattered on), Poch missing from the line (when there is a break in play he's often having words with a player), and the effects of the CL game.

i hate to think how many goals we could have scored. Eriksen hit the bar, Kane could have had a hatrick. Moura and the rest of the team were not clinical or determined enough. At least Kane got one. But it should have been more and he knows it.

Now...We re-group after a rest and put it right.

I agree with those points. But at least for today Dele has the reason of his long injury lay off for not having a greater impact on the game. Ugh if only we didn’t love this club so much these recent losses wouldn’t be such a bother.

At least we’ve got three weeks to stew over them though...
