I rate Dempsey highly, and agree that it would be sensible for us to play him against former club. However I want us to start embracing what we are good at - fast counter-attacking football and thereby utilising the players we have in the squad with these qualities.

In particular, am disappointed that after some very impressive pre-season performances Townsend is not getting a chance. In fact, I remember reading that he was the second fast player at the club behind Kaboul, and ahead of Bale, Lennon and Walker.

The opposition most fear our pace, so lets embrace that and go for:
Lloris
Caulker Vertonghen
Walker Naughton

Sandro Dembele

Lennon Bale Townsend

Defoe

I would set up like this as:

- Bale cannot be marked out of the game in a free role.
- The pace of a front four of Lennon, Bale, Townend and Defoe would terrify defences and came them deep, allowing Walker and Naughton to push up and squeeze them up the pitch.
- Dembele and Sandro are solid enough to allow Bale a free role.
- I suppose we could always play Townend at lb, to incorporate Dempsey for this game.
 
Fulham have scored only two goals in the last seven PL meetings with Spurs and one of those was an own goal by Younes Kaboul. Drought.

Defender Steven Caulker has overcome illness and is fit for Tottenham's Premier League game at Fulham on Saturday.

Caulker missed the midweek win over Liverpool and now must wait and see if he regains his place.

Emmanuel Adebayor completes his three-match suspension, but Scott Parker (Achilles), Benoit Assou-Ekotto and Younes Kaboul (both knee) are out.

Great news. They will be a big bonus to have in the squad for the busy Xmas/New Year schedule. would allow us to do a little more rotation without reducing the quality of the starting X1
 
SPURS TEAM NEWS FOR FULHAM:

Andre Villas-Boas reports no further injuries ahead of Saturday’s Premier League derby at Fulham.

“We’ll re-assess everyone today and then make our decisions tonight for tomorrow’s game,” Andre told us ahead of training on Friday.

Scott Parker is back in light training while longer-term injuries Younes Kaboul (knee) and Benoit Assou-Ekotto (knee) remain sidelined.

Emmanuel Adebayor serves the final game of his three-match suspension.

Andre said that recovery time was key at the moment with so many fixtures - Fulham will be our fourth game in 10 days since Lazio and our 12th since October 20.

“It’s been non-stop and we have three more games ahead of us, Fulham, Panathinaikos and Everton and then we have a breather before Swansea,” he added.

“The mentality of the players has been so good that we’ve been able to focus on the games, give 100 per cent and then recover quickly."
 
DAWS READY FOR COTTAGE TEST

Michael Dawson knows exactly what to expect at Fulham on Saturday.

The trip to Craven Cottage is always one of our toughest in the Premier League calendar.

We managed to come away with a 3-1 victory last term despite coming under all sorts of pressure. Indeed, we’re three unbeaten in the Premier League in SW8, although the Cottagers enjoyed a 4-0 win in the FA Cup in January, 2011.

“Every time you go to Fulham you know it’s going to be difficult,” said Michael, who led by example with the captain’s armband in Wednesday night’s win against Liverpool.

“They’ll be at us but we’ve had two good wins in the Premier League at home and we can take that into Saturday’s game.

“Our away form has been good, but this is another tough one. It would be great to get the three wins in a week.”



So Dawson is set to start against Fulham but who will partner him?

My money is on Caulker.

If Gallas plays over Caulker there's something rotten in Denmark.

just shows your bias if you think Gallas is better that Dawson at the moment. Gotcha.
 
On what grounds is Townsend ahead of Falque and Carroll on the bench?

Also - how can Gallas possibly be ahead of Dawson based on form? He was our worst player (yet again) on Wednesaday
 
I would probably pick that lineup though, but have Carroll and Falque on the bench instead of Livermore and Townsend. Fancy Gallas to deal with Berbatosser.
