Sissoko is not good enough. I stand by that. Not to "win" or "not back down", but something far more complicated and nuanced. Listen, see if you can understand it...

And I can articulate why, if you were at all interested. Just as I will say when I think he has done well/what I think he has done well.
Similarly with the diamond. Its not that I just dont like diamonds. Im of the firm belief ANY formation can work, if applied properly and with the right players to make it work.
I do not think either of those are happening with us. We've neither the players or the training (it seems) to make the diamond work. So when we persist with it, and face predictable and repeated issues, I dont like it.
Watching the game against BM, despite your view of it, I saw players running themselves into the ground - so much so they were dead before HT - trying to compensate for all the issues the diamond presented.
Watching the game today, I saw far far less of those issues with the SHAPE, but it is also clear the players did not make anything like the same effort.

Jermaine Jenas has declared the end for this Tottenham side after Brighton compounded a nightmare week for Mauricio Pochettino.
The Seagulls dominated Spurs to coast to a 3-0 victory, heaping more misery on Mauricio Pochettino after the 7-2 thrashing against Bayern Munich midweek in the Champions League.
And now the former Spurs star believes this squad has reached the end, pointing the finger at the board for failing to listen to Pochettino’s warning in the summer.
“Pochettino is one of the best coaches in Europe, but the guys above him did not listen, he’s foreseen this, this squad needs refreshing,” Jenas said on BT Sport.
“I feel he’s taken them as far as they can go. The players have not applied themselves. Pochettino has probably thought, ‘that’s as far as I can take this club’.
“If they (the Tottenham board) had listened to him, they wouldn’t be in this position now. I’ve seen this at Tottenham before, it stinks of that at the minute.”
Jenas then criticised Spurs players for failing to react throughout the game and “hiding”.
“Look at this, players standing behind players, that is hiding. It happened throughout the game," Jenas added.

"I think motivation is a big thing here. Alderweireld and Vertonghem, two of the most professional players I know, they work their socks off, but if I was them, I would be saying why am I committed to you?
"Even though I’ve given you half my career. Same for Eriksen, there are too many of those players. It creates a poor harmony. It’s so difficult to manage that situation as a manager.”

Theres no way we were playing well, or that the shape was helping us at all - but I dont fault the players work ethic on the night (as Jenas talks about at the end).

Did he really want Sissoko, or was he the last thing left at the bottom of the bargain aisle on deadline day? I would probably want a rotten, festering piece of ham if I was starving.
Sissoko didn't let us down today either. Pretty much everyone else did, but I can't fault people if the issue is an ability deficit as opposed to application. The players showed what they thought of the manager today.

- They have conceded ten goals in their last two games

I didnt see it (thankfully!) but I think BM - the players really tried to follow the plan, and the plan undid them completely.
And they have to live with that embarrassment of a result.
I think seeing the way they just gave in at the end, and then performed today, thats the turning point for me.
