OMT: Manure vs Mighty Spurs

First half was pretty ropey despite some decent chances but what a turnaround in the 2nd half! Great performance from Moura in particular but also thought Toby, Lloris and Verts were solid and didn’t panic.

Please give Toby the contract he deserves! Our defence would be a lesser unit without him and I rate Sanchez highly but he’s not at Toby’s level at the moment.

Easy for him to be magnanamus when he just won 3-0.

Utd executed their plan better than we did ours, which was to spoil our game rather than play. I did not feel particularly threatened by them at any point. On balance I still think we had the better chances and there was no luck in being 0-0 at HT. We would have been very unfortunate to be losing at that point.

Let's hope he's equally generous after the Liverpool game. In fact, I want to see him being Magnanamus Magnanamusson.

Apart from the Lukaku chance (that we gifted them), did they have another really good chance? Fred had one half-chance in the first half (was that from us giving the ball away too?) and Hugo made a good save from Lukaku 2nd half when we were 1-0 up.

But we obviously had the 3 goals, plus a gilt edge chance for Kane that he missed, the Dele chance (a gift from them similar to Lukaku's, but probably an even better chance), a possible penalty in the first half with Lucas and an Eriksen half-chance in the first half. Oh, and Dele messing up in the first-half when he could have squared it to Kane or had a shot but did neither.

So on chances created, we made much the better chances and took 3 of them. Utd took lots of pot shots but had very little clear cut opportunities.

This is our biggest league win at OT since a 4-1 in 1972, and before that, a 5-1 in 1959. We've won 3-0 there once before but that was in the LC in 1989, with goals from Lineker, Nayim and Vinny Sideways.

I seem to remember the sky stat at half time that they had something like 12 shots to our two.

The Lancashire accents may be difficult to follow at times, and it might just be me but it appears these fellows don't quite share Jose's view of his own popularity.

what a performance, you've got to have competition in a squad, Moura knows he has to win his place while Son is away, we never looked like conceding. And lets talk about the hateful media, especially sky, the post match review was almost exclusively about the team in red, what would have happened if they had won 3-0, the fourth estate so wanted us to have a bad start to the season so they could fire a rocket up levy, f@ck off Carragher, neville and Tyler, hope u all had a sleepless night, wish I could have been there.

Bang on, Mr. B.

So many pre-scripted narratives against Spurs hit the shredder with that result.

The mainstream media macarons probably spent so much time working on their assumptions that they were totally caught empty handed with Spurs winning so comprehensively. One of my companions said it looked likelier that Spurs would win 4-0 or more than United actually scoring one of their own.

Long may it continue for me. We’ll fly under the radar and end up challenging for the title before anyone notices us (again)

Lukaku has a couple of chances and Hugo had to make a couple of saves.

We could have been a couple down at HT, I don’t think that’s an outrageous statement o make.

But we weren’t and that’s all that matters

But if we don’t come above those paupers Emirates Marketing Project and Liverpool, what with us having such an advantage having bought no players and not having a home ground for half the season we have no winning mentality and Kane and co will leave so they can play less games for money. Plus Poch has to win something to prove he’s a decent manager, you know like Brendan Rogers does every season. Or if he doesn’t win something because we haven’t mortgaged the club to indulge his transfer whims he will join a club that will, as the failure to win something is actually all Spurs’ fault and the real test of a manager isn’t how many league places he can finish on his relative budget or how many players he can improve through coaching but how they perform with limitless funds and huge playing squads of mercanaries who’d rather sit on the bench for a pay cheque than play every week.

To be fair other than Benteke there aren’t many i’d rather a chance fell to than Lukaku!

Both chances came from our players, Roses back pass and then a deflection I think from Dembele when tracking back. There were periods when united had a lot of the ball and there’s few more nervous than me when Spurs are leading but United didn’t seem to have a plan what to do in possession. Lindgaard floated around with purpose and Shaw was great in the overlap, however Valencia needs to spend more time on his final ball rather than trying to squeeze into a shirt a size too small for him, Sanchez came on and did his cut in on his right foot trick that the who league has sinced worked out. Pogba tried to impose himself on Danny Rose and failed, Fellani was a long ball outlet that we managed well.

I think Mourinho is used to drilling an experienced defence and centre mid but has never really needed to coach attacking players that heavily as he’s had a top drawer centre forward and a couple of buzzy direct types playing off him. Now he has Lukaku, Smalling, Jones and Pogba as his ‘spine’. The fact they’ve won a few pots and fame 2nd would be seen as an achievement if you removed the price tags from the players!

We could have been a couple down but, in my view, while they had the better of the first half they didn’t deserve to be any more than a goal ahead. They may have had 12 efforts but not many really troubled us (Lukaku’s and Jan’s deflection behind were the only real heart in mouth moments for me).

On the flip side, we should have had a pen and Eriksen scuffed a decent chance so it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that we could have undeservedly gone in ahead.

Like you say though, who cares. Leave Mourinho to the ifs and buts. We’ll take the three points thanks very much.
