To use the modern language not sure what has happened and as thick as I am I do not have the words to describe what has happened.

I have been doing some couriering work recently 3 trips to Heathrow a day 4 days a week. Been doing it for an engineering company that deliver parts to airlines.

Anyway I have dealings with a few other companies along the way and on Tuesday one of the companies where I stop on my way through they need a new general manager. I get along well with the MD and we chat and laugh for last couple of months.

He has quite literally this week just offered me the job as manager though I have no real experience and I do not particularly want it either. Wife said I would be mad to turn it down, I seriously do not even know what they do I just drive in there pick up some packages and drive on up to Heathrow.

Thought the guy might be mad or having a break down but I meet him for lunch and a chat and he said he wants to employ a "character" actually did that thing with his fingers in the air when he said character.

Whats your advice then? should I take it.

I am 50 years old and not really needing the money I only took on the driving to keep me ticking over. I am pretty shocked with all this but since I sold my locksmith franchise I have just rolled with it and done what ever came along.

Genuinely do not know what to do, we talked for 2 hours today and I am still not sure what the job entails other then making sure other people are working.

Congrats on getting the offer at least! Must be a cool feeling...

Nothing helpful to say. But have you considered how this guy will be to work for? Nothing personal, but he's willing to hire you like this knowing very little about you he might not be the best guy ever to work under...

If you can get your courier job back (or something else) if it doesn't work out, what have you got to lose?

Time and suffering if the job is a pain. Having been given the opportunity like this I'm not sure jgl just walks out after 3-4 months if the job is annoying, but doable.

I work for a courier company that as a branch at LHR, we could end up as colleagues

Done so many hours this week, I feel so tired, I do not know what I am doing and I miss seeing my son.

Thought spurs were on today but turns out the game is tomorrow:(

Sounds rough mate...

For me at least if you feel like you don't know what you're doing don't be afraid to ask even those working for/under you. In my experience people would much rather work for someone that is lacking in knowledge, but improving and willing to ask than for someone pretending to save face or get authority.

You were hired for a reason. It might take some time to get into it, but that reason doesn't just go away.

If it keeps being bad, just quit. But you must surely have expected a fairly tough settling in period?
