Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

I thought Sig was superb on sunday.

Is it the same with him like it is with Defoe ? If he doesnt score goals he's damned, and all Defoe does is score goals and he is damned too.

Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

I disagree with that but suppose only time will tell

I think he's more disciplined than VdV, so will stay closer the striker (which is a good thing). But in turn won't have as many touches or be as involved in the game

But Dembele will be everywhere so hopefully that won't matter it will allow Gylfi to focus on creating opportunities and goals.

Yeah I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I didn't like it when VdV dropped too deep as it left whoever was up front too isolated.

I just think people are expecting too much from him as he's playing in the same position as VdV.

Although a lot of his final play didnt quite come off i thought showed a lot we can take encouragment from

Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

what counts for alot was his defence splitting pass to lennon for the goal.
at a time when we started to look shaky, after walker handles the ball in our box.
after that it was pretty much showtime!

Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

His through ball to Lennon on Sun was superb though his overall contribution in the first 4 games as been below average

I cant see AVB playing say Dempsey in his place though as that would be too attacking for AVB. More likely I think is that he'd bring someone like Thudd in if he was going to leave Siggy out or if he got injured

high praise indeed considering you were not a fan of his before he joined

looks like the Sig is winning you over

Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

A slightly harsh assessment of Gylfi' start at Spurs http://www.football365.com/news/21554/8084818/F365-s-Premier-League-Winners-Losers but this stat does sound about right

...the attacking midfielder having the worst pass completion rate of Spurs' outfield players on Sunday and the second-worst all season, behind Defoe.

although I can't find any way of verifying it...

Perhaps in a home game against a bottom half team AVB might allow Dempsey to start in the middle of the supporting 3. If he wants to be more cautious then Dembele could also slot into that role with Parker, Livermore or Hudd playing in CMF alongside Sandro.

Re: Gylfi Sigurdsson

It wouldn't surprise me if he did have one of the worst completion pass rates for Sunday, but only because he looked for the attacking passes more than anyone else. I have no doubts about his technical or passing abilities at all.....

Gylfi made Soccernet's team of the week:

Little Luka Modric might have left to avoid Spurs' new grey-and-black kit, but Gylfi Sigurdsson isn't worried by his attire and would rather focus on his football style, which is proving popular in North London as he sublimely set Aaron Lennon away for Jermain Defoe's opening goal, and always offering a threat with the ball at his feet and his ability to shoot from distance.

That's why I said he was superb. There's a hell of a lot of fans, especially on this board that know jack brick about football.

Wasn't that impressed on sunday, but saw enough to suggest that he can become a very effective player.

His performance against WBA was the worst I´ve seen though. On and upwards!

I think over the past few games you could say that about any number of our players. I think we will see a very different Spurs from here on in.

its the tv angle - hard to see the runs of the players off the ball. bigger tv doesn't help, only emphasises the guy with the ball even more!

Indeed, that was always my biggest criticism of VDV, it really use to do my head in. Especially when he would come deep and pick the ball up a couple of yards outside the penalty area
