* Official Pre-Season Games Thread *

Livermore was class in loads of games last year. Agree with you about Carroll but not Townsend as I've said previously.

Today reminded me what Hudd can do though, fantastic ability.

Personally I thought he looked OK, but not of the level we require. For example, I don't think he is as good as our last youth midfield export O'Hara nor do I think he'll ever be as good as O'Hara.

Don't see it there with Livermore. Only time he has impressed me is when he has surpassed my low expectations and put in a slightly above average performance

Agreed with all of that. Livermore was far from class in any games last year, very capable and solid, yes, good squad player to come in and do a job, yes. Class though, he was not. He'll need to improve imeasurably to be able to force his way in to a 1st team spot with us, I hope he can, but suspect he can't.

surely it is essential for the future of this club to spend time and develop players like Kane than critise him seeing him in preseason games. There are too many FM managers on this site who just want to sign the latest youtube Carlos Kickaball. After years of watching poor football and ahving no chance of competing with the top teams we have developed a half decent side playing good football, the only thing that has not improved is the fans, just a bunch of moaners no different than the Sky 4 fans

=D>

Absoulte fudging tosh.

There is nothing in the lad that makes you sit up and think, yeah he has something. what is the point in trying to develop something that doesnt exist ? Take a very younr Rooney. He had something even at 16/17 yo that everyone could see. He had drive, passion, skill and complete confidence. Kane ? He is 18 I think ? He has nothing, no skill, no control, lacks any sort of confidence and just looks generally brick.

I'm all for developing players, but ffs let's develop players that actually have something about them, something that makes you take notice.

That is one of the problems with football fans generally in todays football, they think playing kids games on computers gives them the knowledge to run a Pro club.

If you didn't see the the class in his performance against Everton then our opinions differ on the definition of the word, or our interpretation of footballing ability, one or the other.

Everton at home, Liverpool away and Utd at home. Livermore was fantastic in those games. As for the comment about him not being able to pass, he was in the top 10 players in the whole of Europe for pass completion % last season.

Coulibaly?

I hope so.

Pass completion percentages only tell half the story.

Think your overrating a home grown talent tbh, your picking out 1 game where he looked good. It's about consistency, as TMK makes the comparison to O'hara, he had some very good games, Arsenal away in pretty much his debut was far better than anything I've seen Livermore produce taking in to consideration the oppo, but he didn't do it consistenly.

At the end of the day you've just got to use your instinct, you can tell if a players "got it" or not.

So just got back in from the game, couple of things tv/rivers won't tell you

- Attendance was 42K, not bad, not full either, more Pool supporters than Spurs, but quite a few yids from different places
- Due to some baseball game later, this game had a 1pm kickoff time, it was about 37 degrees celcius, it was painful sitting on my ass, not surprised we didn't see a high tempo game from either side

On the game itself

- Back 4 looked a lot better than against Galaxy having Benny/Gallas/Brad in helped, Gallas still looks like he has a part to play. None of the defenders looked terribly out of place.
- Midfield and upfront is where we are struggling with obvious absentees in Modric/Sandro/Parker/JD/Ade
- Bale looks like an absolute monster, was clipped badly from behind (more on that later)
- Sig is interesting off the ball, he makes some darting runs looking for the pass, not sure you see that on tv.
- Hudd looks fit and his passing is still there, definetely improved with him coming on
- Carroll (our own), I like, neat, very small, has to get stronger.
- Townshend tried hard

- Pool actually put Gerrard, new italian striker, Carroll all on, there game never impressed, Cole was wearing #10 for them?

RE injuries

- Ref was clueless, lot of little late foot in, step on heels from behind, little digs from Pool players.
- Walker looked fine in warm up
- Rafa was on bench for game, right thigh heavily strapped, bit of a limp/waddle, would be surprised if he played Tuesday
- Bale went off limping at end of first half after being taken down from behind, didn't seem serious but saw the whole team at train station after game and he was wearing full protective boot for foot, hopefully precaution?

All the guys walked single file past fans in train station (they were heading up to NYC), Benny as always being cool, most said hi, acknowledged, etc, Bale in boot even signed a couple of autographs.

Great synopsis.

Thanks. :)

FURIOUS Andre Villas-Boas will report Charlie Adam to the FA after another horror tackle on Gareth Bale.

The new Spurs boss was fuming as a so-called friendly was overshadowed when the Liverpool man crocked Bale.

Tottenham players were in shock as the Welsh ace struggled on in the goalless game before getting substituted at the break.

A source said: “The manager was horrified by the tackle and thinks it is one of the most cowardly tackles he has seen.

"He believes Adam could have pulled away if he wanted to.

“The manager is determined to report Adam.”

The pair have a history of bad blood from May last year when Adam was at Blackpool and appeared to stamp on the Spurs player.

FA officials did not take action over that tackle but AVB wants them to look at this latest incident.

Spurs medics will now check on Bale as he has only just returned to action after being ruled out of the Olympics through a back injury.

Angry AVB said: “I think it was a very nasty challenge from Charlie. The player had gone and he came in from behind on Gareth’s ankle. I did not know the previous history between the two. I do now.

“It is a difficult one to be fair. You do not want to end up in a game with Liverpool with 10 men.

“At half-time Charlie came to me and said something about the challenge.

“I can accept that but I think he should go to the player to say sorry.

“If the player escapes hospital it is because he is very lucky. The last time he was out for three months and in the end it is the Premier League that suffers without a player of Bale’s talent.”

Bale sparked uproar by playing in Spurs’ US tour opener against LA Galaxy on Wednesday — after pulling out of Team GB’s squad.

He received lengthy treatment after the 19th-minute incident and spent the rest of the half hobbling before being subbed at the interval.

Adam’s ugly tackle raised temperatures further inside the M&T Bank Stadium — where the thermometer never dipped below 100 degrees, despite an evening kick-off.

But it was one of the few incidents of note as this game wilted in the American sun.

Joe Cole, welcomed back by new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers after a season on loan at Lille, forced a save out of Brad Friedel on 12 minutes.

Spurs winger Aaron Lennon hit the post from a YARD on the stroke of half-time after Bale’s inswinging cross.

Martin Skrtel nearly won the game for Liverpool with a run and shot on 55 minutes.

Rodgers gave England stars Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll their first pre-season outings in the second half.

His opposite number AVB was left to ponder his luck as his American dream has turned into a nightmare.

Since arriving in the States, the new Spurs boss has had to contend with Luka Modric going AWOL, Scott Parker possible needing surgery on his Achilles, Bale’s Olympic controversy, Jermain Defoe returning home following the death of his cousin and now Adam’s wretched tackle on Bale

That was a meaningless friendly. But you can't help but worry about our preparation for next season. AVB being a new manager, still seems to try out all players even those who were useless in the past. With just 3 weeks to go before the new season starts, AVB needs to make up his mind about his first team. And we need to make a big signing soon, especially a striker or two.
