*** Official Music Thread ***

Malcom Young, brother of Angus, has retired due to beeing diagnosed with dementia. He will not be returning to any form of music... :(

Sad day for all us AC/DC fans!

Being replaced by his nephew, as he has been in the past as well. As long as Angus is able the band will continue.

Just in case anyone alive isn't aware of the "Loudness wars" (Or the ruination of modern music)
If anyone is tempted to buy any new "Remastered" CD's, to replace their worn or scratched versions, please be aware that most are now just louder, less dynamic..

My biggest weakness, miles ahead of strong willed brunettes and drugs, is vinyl record stores. I can't help myself in one. If I were to win the lottery that is what I'd open. Was in a new shop in Liverpool today and got The Graduate OST and The History of Otis Redding.

I haven't watched the video above yet, but MP3 sound is a disgrace. Nothing beats the grooves on a record, the crackle before a record starts.

I need help

Agreed, MP3's are a complete joke. I have my CD collection ripped as lossless. The above video is quite an eye opener for anyone who is not aware of how CD's are currently being "mastered". In a nut-shell...modern CD's are loudness boosted. IE ALL quiet parts of the music are boosted to the levels of the existing loud sections..hence DESTROYING Dynamic range. The video below is an excellent demonstration of this horrendous phenomena :-

I also agree that vinyl has a much smoother sound than CD. I purchased a Linn Sondek turntable a few years back and that is a sonic delight. I no longer buy CD's or LP's that are *brick-walled*

On older CD's that are a little low on bass punch and impact, I now tend to remaster those CD's myself to make them more dynamic and listenable.

Anyone hear of the Alpines? Got a new album 'Oasis' ****ing brilliant album... they ought to be bigger than what they are

I don't care what anyone says, this is one of the best pop songs in years.

My daughter's just turned 3 and starting to understand pop songs on the radio. I don't mind her listening to this, has a great message. Better than any junk from Nicki Minaj or any of those other try hards.

In the moonlight
Under starlight
Songs old as the night
Are what I've been dreaming of

Crackin' tune from the early 80s that my daughter has dredged out of our pile of vinyl now that she's in love.
