Off his new album coming out in October

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...-reveal-album-release-date-tracklist-20120911

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have given Psychedelic Pill, their second album of 2012, an official release date of October 30th.

With a handful of tracks passing the 15-minute barrier, and opener "Driftin' Back" clocking in at a whopping 27 minutes and 36 seconds, the followup to their folk covers record Americana will be available in double-CD and triple-LP formats. Check out the full tracklist below.

"It's us jamming and having lots of fun," Crazy Horse guitarist Frank "Poncho" Sampedro told Rolling Stone earlier this summer. "I think that [former Crazy Horse producer] David Briggs would be proud of it . . . Once he was gone, I felt like we lost our compass a bit. We had the sound and we had the big machine, and we could play anything and play pretty good, but we weren't putting any great records together. I mean, Broken Arrow was OK. It wasn't like Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere or Rust Never Sleeps or Ragged Glory."

Produced by Neil Young with John Hanlon and Mark Humphreys, Psychedelic Pill is the first album of original material by the full line-up of Neil Young and Crazy Horse since Broken Arrow in 1996 – though the band (minus Poncho) did back Young on his 2003 rock opera Greendale.

The band resumes their 2012 tour on October 3rd in Windsor, Ontario. It wraps up December 4th in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Track list:

Disc One:
1) Driftin' Back (27:36)
2) Psychedelic Pill (3:26)
3) Ramada Inn (16:49)
4) Born in Ontario (3:49)

Disc Two:
1) Twisted Road (3:28)
2) She's Always Dancing (8:33)
3) For the Love of Man (4:13)
4) Walk Like a Giant (16:27)
Bonus Track:
5) Psychedelic Pill (Alternate Mix)

Of the 2 albums released the same day, TDCC and The Vaccines, I've preferred The Vaccines album neither are as good as their debuts though

Does an album have to grab you first listen nowadays? Just curious, most new music I'll only give several listens to 'get it' if I already like an artist/band, or there is enough reason to (I love 'band A' everyone else who loves then loves 'band B' etc).

Looking forward to the new Avett Brothers album, that one will get several if it requires it!

Know exactly what you mean. I'm into albums a lot more than singles, so I know it's about the long haul. Heard Tame Impala's record the other day. Just noise to start with, but the fourth listen and it all becomes clear. It's worth sticking an album out.

Obviously if you hear an album and don't like it on the first listen, not much is going to change that, but just because every melody or guitar line is more layered, it takes time

Taht said, I've listened to Trout Mask Replica a lot, and it still goes over my head at times

think i may have mentioned a band The Whollsefore, they recently sold out 1000 cap venue in their home town (Bedford) - here's a review - http://what-music.com/the-wholls-smash-it-at-bedford-corn-exchange/

they're playing Breakout at Proud, Camden in Nov and Chris McCormacks (ex Three Colours Red/Gary Numan) new club night end of sept at Underbelly hoxton with the vex and eyes on film (Carl Barat's new band)

best band i've seen from three counties in over 5 years

See that this excellent album is up for the Mercury Prize, favourite with the bookies, well deserved, I like it alot the wife loves it.

Edit: Is replying to myself as bad as talking about Gifter in the third person?! Feels it.

Never heard of them until about 3 weeks a go when someone at work recommended them, very good album.

Have to say, really disappointed with the new Killers album. Definitely peaked with their first two albums just as Oasis did. Even Day and Age had it's moments, but I can't even pick 1 standout track from this new one.

Didn't think much of it until I listened through it a good 3-4 times. First couple couldn't really tell much difference between each song but the album is definitely a grower.
