Great cast and frenetic but like you, I thought it was just a chancers arm at trying to put out a film that feels like society in 2025. Its was ok for me, no more

Agreed!
Pynchon books are a tough translation anyway, but that aside, it was absolutely trying too hard. If Tarantino had made it, this film might've been bordering on great. Instead it seemed cheap, choppy, misaligned and ultimately failed to hit amny targets. I think PTA is the most overrated 'celeb' director around. One great film for me, There Will Be Blood (which was great!) and besides that, meh.

Yep. Too inconsistent for me to be given 5/5. I wouldn’t argue if Sean Penn and Chase Infiniti win Oscars. It does get good about 40 mins from the end and doesn’t let up to its credit.

I actually walked out of Phantom Thread when I saw it at the cinema with my sister. The only films I’ve really enjoyed of PT Anderson are Licorice Pizza and Punch Drunk Love.

I only watched TWBB recently and absolutely loved it. I think Boogie Nights is absolutely brilliant too, Burt Steals it for me.

Oh I loved it, although I think DDL was basically Bill the Butcher and that performance was accepted because of its him.

Hard Eight is very good too

I take these films over half the guff Wes Anderson puts out now
 
Watched the natural. Rr is class as always.

Dunno. Too forced and baseball is brick.

Prefered the kostner one with herself trying to have sex with the team.

The Natural is absolutely class, the books different and as good if not better, although the RR character is a bad guy.

Bull Durham, brilliant film too.

Major League another from Baseball that I love

Baseball has had some tremendous films, probably the best sporting films out there.
 
Watched Sporloos again last night and it was still a real chiller. Well worth a watch if you can get past the 80s aesthetic of a drama / thriller and not have your disbelief suspended because of it.
