O/T Capello Resigns / New England Manager Speculation Thread

I agree with you my cuddly friend that levy is the main man and the buck stops with him. But in the proffesional set up that your talking about if i was the CEO and i had a manager come to me with a buying policy like redknapp has done at previous clubs i would think he was clueless.

Now redknapp is a average/good coach but levy must have to keep a very firm eye on him considering his previous transfer dealings and the sitautions he has left clubs in. If redknapp was a manager he would know this, we are talking about a multi million pound business. It is one of the reason why i do not belive he is the man for the next 5 years.

But as mick pointed out is all just opinon and he is doing a good job in the mean time, maybe other clubs with bigger budgets, liverpool, chelsea are not doing so good but redknapp is doing ok/good and as mick said he is keeping us playing attractive football which i appreciate just wish he did feel the need to humilate us in the cup games, talking of which im going to watch the final with my lad.

you may argue that Harry has a weird transfer policy but like I have always said I very much doubt had the likes of Saha and Nielsen as first choice on his transfer targets list. Also I would even argue that Harrys purchases would please Levy as they are cheaper than buying the likes of Llorente yet we could end up with the same result in the league i.e. CL place.

Levy has to take a hard stance about every signing under any Manager the problem is at which point do we say lets kinda go for it. Not do a Leeds but maybe invest the cash that has been saved up from the wages and the loans and the sale proceeds from the likes of pav.

as a footnote

I meant to say something else about of style of play under Redknapp. Havent we been consistently in the top 2/3 in the fair play league as well. Couldn't find any historical facts to support it though

Of course, but then it was also Harry that guided us to the amazing run we had over the first 20-odd games. The crash was of course disappointing and depressing, but it's only fair and reasonable to judge him over the WHOLE season.

And the joy is always sweeter when it's been preceeded by despair :)

The joy would be sweetest of all, if we finish 3rd, The Filth finish 4th and then Chelski won the CL.

I would put up with the Russian upstarts giving it large, because so too could we. Tee hee!

It was another good post by mick i will agree and it was true. Alhtough i think he missed harry being just about the worst manager we have had in the cups, to the point where i will not go to another cup match while he is in charge.

Redknapp is a good manager but i would still sack him in the summer and bring in someone who i would hope would be in charge for 5 + years and i do not think that is redknapp.

I find his indeceision on upgrading parts of our squad annoying and think it is holding us back i think how he conducts himself and gives out mix messages could be stopping our players from really ebliving in thmselves.

All that said the facts say he is doing a decent job, i just hope levy has the guts to go for someone who can do a great job.

Yep. Agree. Good post. We need a Mourhino, or that calibre, and big money investment on players. Thats the only way we will solidly bridge the gap to the elite. We might then keep Bale and Modric too.

id be more gutted about Chelsea winning the CL than i would be happy seeing Arsenal missing out

Wouldn't want Chelsea to win the CL myself. Even if they do knock the Arse out by doing so.

First London team to win the European Cup. Still have that ambition somewhere at the back of my mind.

Oh, and if we manage to finish third after all that's gone on, I will have to swallow quite a bit of humble pie, I suppose. Ah, well. It's a sacrifice I'll happily make.;)

Id take the first bite of that humble pie too. An arse supporter offered me and my Spurs mates a hanky after we looked like we fcked it up. I would just LOVE to ram it back down their throat.

Would you rather we go back to years and years of mediocrity in the league in exchange for the odd cup win every 9 or 10 years?

And we haven't been that bad in the cups.

Quarter final of the CL

Semi finalists twice in the FA cup

Final of the Carling Cup

We'd lost 4 times in the semi final of the FA cup in the last two decades even before Redknapp came to Spurs so it's not like it's anything new that we get knocked out in the semis. We seem to have some sort of mental block in the semi final of that competiton, but you can't blame that solely on Redknapp.

Obviously i would not want to go back to years and years of mid table but i belive seeing the wealth of our club we under performed in that decade due to bad managment. Redknapp has got us to the level we should be around but i do not have the confidence to take us to the next level.

It seems to me fans are split in to two groups, those that are scared of dropping back and those that are ambitious of going forward. I was just a labourer but decided to start up my own locksmith business and work for myself, since that day i decided never to be held back by fear.

Levy has to make an informed decesion about how best to take us forward, if he thinks that is redknapp then it his decesion ultimately. I would go for someone else who i belived would be a better bet on taking us forward.

But i have to go back to what mick said, he has been a decent/good manager for us. My only major complaint would be how we have performed in cup matches, im not talking about the length of the run but how we have performed against teams pompey were all but down and chelsea what not exactly flying at the time. It makes me wonder if he can really cut it at the very top.

It did not work with ramos which is why i think we need when we look for the guy to look for someone who can speak english and has experince of the english football system. If levy was wise he would sack redknapp and before he appointed a new manager bring in a new fitness coach and sports therapist to get the players minds mentally touger. That way the new regime would not be linked to any new manager coming in and the players would not be against him from the start.

Redknapp is not bad but i belive in the future, i am not scared with a lot of thought and some footbal inteligence that we could do better. I have belived for the last 2 seasons that we should have won the premership, i see no reason why we could not have won it this year with the squad we have, except for some poor ref decesions and bad choices by redknapp and the england "problem" i think we would have got close.

Lets make next year our year.

Over 30years as a manager, one FA cup win, one Div3 trophy, one Div one trophy. on the minus side he has been relegated twice. With such a amazing terrific portfollio its surprising one of the really big clubs here or abroad have not given him a job.

Brilliant post. I've said it before we have been so bad over the last 20 yrs Spurs fans feel almost apologetic where we are and treat Harry like the messaih. Harry 's not a bad coach but lets be honest this is as poor as Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool have been in years. Its not just us but Saudi Sportswashing Machine who have taken advantage. We may finish 3rd but the crucial thing in my mind is how far ahead City and United are- almost 20 points. This is where in previous years Chelsea and Arsenal would have been also. So the question is has HR taken us to another level, or have Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal come down to ours? I know where my money lies.

This for me as well, there is no doubt Redknapp has done a good job but we need better if we are to go further as he has reached his limit.

Agree with this too. His transfer policy, tactics, dead balls, team formations, results against our main rivals, selections and substitutions (as well as his demented sound bites), all point to the fact we need someone better to take us to the next level.

We are not going to get a Mourinho unless we can pay them Mourinho level wages and guarantee Mourinho levels of investment in the team.

I think Redknapp will stay if we get CL this season.Which could be a bad thing in a way, because I feel we won't win anything under him.Instead just becoming like Arsenal playing attractive football and possibly qualifying for the CL but not delivering silverware

We can win the domestic cups under Redknapp, given time. The League? No, I don't think we can. Unless we have a major change in our financial circumstances it doesn't matter who manages us, we aren't going to win the Premiership.

People say Redknapp can't take us any further, but in my opinion that is because we're close to our club limitations. If we finish 3rd this year (and it's still a big if in my opinion) then that is quite frankly as good as it gets for the Premiership and as good as it's going to get.

Positive thinking Milo positive thinking. We nearly got Mourinho though one october in the end we held off and he went to chelsea. The key is to research and find the next manager that can take us up a level.

Levy has to write out a check list of attributes that would fit our club and where we want to be. How to build a team, someone used to dealing and promoting youth players, someone that can get his teams playing good football but also grind out results, someone who is not in fear in the transfer market like redknapp seems to be these days, someone who can be a positive influence at the club and not flip flop with his opinons on a weekly basis like redknapp.

That man is out there, belive in better belive in the future.

as long as there are 2 multibilionaires out there bankrolling two other clubs, with a money no object policy - we are not going to be winning the league or the European cup any time in the forseeable future.

Throw manure and arse into the mix and you can guarantee Harry is right.

This is as good as it gets - there is no next level, we are here already.

the sooner you dreamers start accepting reality, the better.

(and dont quote Chelski this season, they are only where they are because their multibillionaire cant stop interfering with a profession he doesn't understand, and keeps sacking managers and hiring the next new sensation.)

This is the first big club he has managed, up until now he's been polishing turds.

I'm expecting big, big investment into the first team this summer.

Redknapp at least deserves one more season, because i think we will genuinely fight for the title next year.

After that, we'll need a manager who has the mentality of a winner. Someone who has won multiple titles.
