I hate how everyone jumps on the AVB bandwagon like he's some savior. The bloke is so overrated it's beyond belief. One good season with Porto is the basis of his whole managerial career.

People picture him as Mourinho simply because of his age and stint at Chelsea. Bringing him to Spurs is a high risk gamble imo. He has been unsuccessful in the PL.

I agree, I wouldn't exactly hate it if we did hire AVB, but people who are annointing him and giving stick of bringing Moyes in makes no sense to me. He is much more experienced and proven.

I've ALMOST stopped caring WHO it is... if we win a few it will be an inspired appointment, if we lose, it'll be "we miss Harry" ...simple as that really, let's just all close our eyes for a couple of months, turn off all televisions/computer, and not check, or speak to anyone who might know until the first game of the season, then as one, we ALL look (way down) at the (away) dug-out at Saudi Sportswashing Machine, and see who's sitting there...

would certainly add an air of excitement to the long journey up... who's with me?

In fairness cleveland, I don't think that's a fair characterisation of what's going on.

I think the majority of people who advocate AVB or Martinez are painfully aware of the potential downsides. But either of them would give a real buzz of excitement that maybe, just maybe, one of them is another Special One. I want Marty, but I fully accept he could be sacked by Christmas. Ditto, I'd favour AVB over Moyes despite knowing it could be a total trainwreck.

But in both instances I'd be prepared to bet the house on glory rather than take the safer route. AVB or Marty would be a risk, but in a risk assessment I say a risk worth taking.

Not from what I've read. Most of them already think he is superb and utterly dismiss the Chelsea debacle as being soley the blame of the players and the Chairman!

I understand the upside that AVB can bring if he actually works out but imo the risk isn't necessary. Moyes reminds me of the same situation when we hired Redknapp the same things were being said of him. Never did it at a big club, will he play football the Spurs way, what will he do with a proper transfer budget etc.. We have such a good squad right now we don't need a radical change which AVB would definitely bring in terms of system and how he conducts himself.

On here and twitter it seems the majority want to bring in AVB and while I would definintely get behind him if we took him on I think it COULD end up being a Ramos pt.2 debacle.

I'm sure AVB had something to do with what happened at Chelsea, but it's about looking at what is likely to happen with us, and what is relevant to us. If we conclude the circumstances at Chelsea weren't favourable to bring him and them success, then we can look at whether or not we would create a more favourable environment to bring us success instead. Nothing wrong with that.

That's not saying AVB is flawless, and I'm sure maybe he did respond to players in a way that would be considered 'poor management'. But if there's a combustible situation going on, both parties are not going to come out of it looking good. Is that similarly combustible situation likely to happen with us? Fair to say it probably isn't. Our dressing room isn't like theirs. What was he like as a manager in the past? Was he seemingly an arrogant tosser before Chelsea? Well, it seems like he wasn't.

Just as you say some appear to be making excuses for AVB, you did the exact same thing with Harry, putting a positive spin on everything to do with him. And I know you say that if we sign AVB that you will support him, like you support all our managers. So that's great. But just because he hasn't signed yet, it doesn't mean some people can't already defend him if it looks like he's coming!

I don't believe I ever put a positive spin on Redknapp to be honest. I was realistic. Redknapp had some very clear faults and at no time did I say he was a great manager for example. I also squarely laid the blame on the door of Redknapp for certain defeats and playing players out of position.

FWIW I don't believe AVB was given enough time at Chelsea and to judge him on 6 poor months is just as foolish as judging someone on 6 good months. There can be plenty of factors involved in a team not playing well or not getting good results. Sometimes it is the manager, sometimes it is the players, sometimes it is external factors. People also forget that Ancelotti's (an extremely good manager) Chelsea had quite a poor run of form for the last few months he was in charge and it isn't easy to break out of a slump.

But that said, AVB didn't cover himself in glory at Chelsea. The true test of how good someone is, isn't when the going is good. It's when the going gets tough. And AVB seriously cracked under the pressure IMHO and that is what concerns me. Tactically I don't think he shone but 6 months isn't enough time to judge that sort of criteria fairly so I am not too bothered about that. It's his character that concerns me far more than his ability (which I do not believe can be ascertained either way yet although his Porto days are certainly encouraging signs).

Pathetic, MK.

Are you really so utterly lacking in intelligent, original thought on this matter that you are reduced to regurgitating this tedious straw man argument ad infinitum?

If so, you probably ought to give up now.

All the candidates AVB, Moyes, Martinez and Blanc work differently than Redknapp. They all do tactics. They do proper training ground routines. This is why we are looking for at them. I've no doubt some of our players won't buy in to this long term and will have to be sent on their way. I feel we will ultimately lose the English core of our team.
