A lot of people having faith that the board will hire Poch (who I would definitely want back) or potentially going for someone like De Zerbi (looks good thus far but only had one season).

This is also the same board that after sacking Jose, took 3 months to end up at Nuno. I really worry what the decision making process is behind closed doors. Everyone could see Conte should have probably been sacked by now, we're now at Wednesday after his press conference rant and still none the wiser.
De Zerbi was also doing good things elsewhere before Brighton at Sassulo and Shaktar

So because once it took the board a long time to appoint a manager, it is now the norm, ignoring every other time that a manager was appointed pronto? Geez

As for closed doors, yeah, of course this is going to be behind closed doors. And no, you do not sack a manager until you have all your ducks in a row, especially since you have the luxury of an international break to make the best decision possible and not a rushed one.

I think you're missing the point, I don't mind them taking time to get the right manager. It was clear Nuno was never the right manager or the right fit (ignoring the fact he was already unemployed throughout that 3mth search so it wasn't a question of them taking time to get the right guy in).

they had 3 months and ended up with Nuno, that stinks to high heaven of a board who absolutely had no clue what it was doing. And now they're having to do this again.

I think we are going to see a stop gap until the summer in order to give a fresh canvas. Any manager coming in now is on a hiding to nothing, not sure I would put anyone under the pressures created by the previous regime

I really don't want him.

It's just so predictable what happens. A volatile disciplinarian who falls out with his board and players within 12-18 months. On the back of 2 others of these, I just don’t think there’s any scope for it to be effective.

I'm not sure, I think this squad could respond very well to Conte being gone.

I'd prefer our next manager have ten games to properly evaluate the players here, plus pre-season to evaluate some of the youngsters out on loan. That way summer transfers can be more tailored vs. making decisions on paper.

Yep and during that three months they interviewed and turned down ten hag.

A monumental mistake. Who knows where we would be now if such an inexplicable error was never made.

I could see arguments for both, for sure

I was a season ticket holder at PSG at the time (just to see Safet Susic and Hoddle, once a year) and I can tell you it wasn't even close to being the 5th best league in Europe. It was certainly more entertaining but it wasn't competitive at all. Marseilles bought their way to a couple of league wins and the absolute star of the league was Jean-Pierre Papin, a guy who couldn't get a look in at AC Milan.

Most teams had a couple of flashy individuals - mostly Africans. Some of them were incredibly talented (Susic, Hoddle, Fofana, Bazdarevic...) but the rest of the league was made-up of very poor players and the level of refereeing was beyond comical. Maybe it looked cool on highlight reels but it was far from good.

I'll bow to your greater knowledge. But Marseille in particular were getting to CL finals and Monaco were paying good money for big players. PSG though were obviously only a new club then.

English clubs were still banned/just returning to Europe and the top German teams then were as much Stuttgart and Bremen etc, as Munich. It was a long way behind Italy, but was much more comparable to the best of the rest I think.

I think that's rewritten history a bit.
It's clear Conte was the first choice and long term target. It was only when the talks broke down with him (and we now see why!) that we had to enter scramble mode - and that saw many options fall by wayside. Nuno was the only one desperate enough to say yes. And also a good manager. A year earlier, many of us wanted him

I'm not actually sure it was a board that didn't know what they were doing. I think the problem last time was that the job being offered wasn't attractive in terms of the targets being set (make the top 4) not being matched by funds provided to perform a rebuild.

I think the parameters of the offer had changed somewhat when Conte was offered the job when offered it again a few months later with a larger war chest being promised.

The calibre of our next appointment will probably also largely depend on the budget given versus the expectation. If 'success' is Champions League qualification but there is only (say) £30m plus sales (and remember we have £80m of outgoings starting to hit the books this summer to make Kulu and Porro permanent) to spend then I think a lot of managers might think twice.

Na, I was working there that time, posted it on here (Even called it that he was joining and he didn't). He was 100% coming till Poch fluttered his eyes and Levy cooled and Conte walked, the whole mess (which BTW I do blame on Levy) left us with a blazing gap when neither worked and we ended up with Nuno, does not make it any better but alas thats how it played out

Way to go Levy.... Turn down Ten Hag, lose Conte, appoint Nuno, spend reasonable money buying players in positions that Conte doesn't operate with and then sack Nuno and appoint Conte with less money to spend.

Agree it was a brick show....We were having to approve all sorts of people to come in and out the red zone bubbles...
