Nabil Bentaleb

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Comments from Sherwood
"I know him (Bentaleb) and it's about knowing him. The kid is ready to play, be it on loan or at Tottenham. I wouldn't hesitate from putting him in the team. He was unfazed and has a fantastic attitude. Trains like every day is his last. I don't know Capoue as much as I know Bentaleb and that's why I put the latter on instead of the former."

That's just a polite way of saying "I rate Bentaleb more than Capoue". He's bound to have his favourites and players he trusts. Guardiola brought through Busquets having had him the season before at Barcelona's second team

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

I echo much of the bentelab love, he's clearly better than wooden Zidane and will win the World Cup single handedly

that kind of attitude will take him a long way in the game. great to hear

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Is it true that he brought bentaleb on because he has worked with him and has seen him more than capoue?

If so, fair enough

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

...slight odd thing to say.

Why not say, Capoue had been playing CB, and I know Bentaleb could do a job in midfield. Or something like that. Capoue has his part to play. Sherwood needs to keep the team together. Don't alienate anyone.

Just part of his pitch to get the job I think: "I know these youngsters, if you had me in charge, we wouldn't have to go and spend £100m on players we don't need, coz we've got the talent here already."

Type of thing.

We'll see how Capoue reacts -- if he's got much about him, he'll play well when he's next called upon.

As it will in life, i like people who like hard work and do not expect the world to owe him a living. He is not english so im not saying it because i think it is a good thing for the national team. I say it as someone who thinks the whole idea of training youth players is to then give them a chance later on.

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

I agree, not very classy from Timbo to poo-poo Capoue. Already going to his head.

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Dembele , loses the ball way too often in key places doing his version of the scott parker pirouette. I appreciate centre midfield so will see lits of the ball but he does get caught often

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Liked when he came on, the commentator didn't have a clue who he was..... "and on comes the young man..... erm......not many fans will know who he is" then the name comes on the screen!
Strange, that's not quite how I heard it. I can't stand that comm most of the time but on this occasion I was impressed because of the way he named the sub straight off and then went on to say - without noticeable hesitation - how well he'd been performing in central midfield for our highly-rated U21s (or something like that). Although I daresay he was only reading from notes provided by research staff.

Incidentally do you think most Spurs fans really would have known too much about him before today?

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

I'm pretty sure that Tactical Tim was the only manager we could possibly have had today that would have brought on Bentaleb.

And it worked wonders. Good on him. Holtby has done ok in that role in the past, but I can't remember the last time we had a proper deep lying playmaker in the side. Everyone plays with one these days, so **** knows why we never did. And Southampton clearly had no game plan for how to deal with him as they didn't know the first thing about him.

There was nothing spectacular from him today, but that's not what players in his position are picked for. They are picked to make things tick over, to help retain possession, to provide an option to other players on the ball, to help get the ball to the more dangerous players in space. And he did very well today.

I was annoyed at Sherwood for leaving out Capoue, especially as I'd said in the OMT that I wanted Capoue to be instructed to stick tight to Lallana, who roamed free and had a hand in both goals. But this I didn't see coming, and I was pleasantly surprised.

It'll also help us sign the best youngsters -- they will come here knowing that they will get to play and progress their career.

Of our recent crop of signings/academy players, we've got Walker, Rose, Livermore and Townsend all playing Premier League football. If lads like Bentaleb can come through too, then it bodes really well for the future.

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

only for the fans to rip them to shreds ala walker, livermore, caulker, townsend, kane and no doubt bentaleb when he misplaces a pass.

Re: Official Nabil Bentaleb Thread

Hmmm, that is a really weird and stupid thing to say from nice but dim.

As for bentaleb, I'm very surprised at the praise he's getting to be honest. He looked okay, but gave the bal a way a few times... If that was a first teamer people would be ripping it to shreds. Good to see youngsters given a chance, but for me not in that game, we'd have been more assured with Capoue or holtby for me. And got away with it, more than great sub in my, clearly controversial opinion.

Isn't Tim supposed to be at the training ground every day? Surely he must watch the players, he claims in his interviews that its his club and he knows all about it and the set up etc.

In addition Capoue has 7 international caps - even I've seen him play for France.

Wow.
Serendipity IMO.
Capoue probably needed a day off.
He was involved in a goal and did not look out of place. Again no way he plays if AVB still manager.

He been watching Bentaleb playing for him for the last 18 months. He knows his character. He's watched Capoue from afar for 3 months and most of the time he was injured.
