plenty have smashed it in the Championship and then failed at the top level:
| Player | Evidence of second-tier goalscoring | Premier League outcome |
| John McGinlay | Boltons leading scorer for four consecutive seasons, 1993/94 and 1996/97. | 6 goals in 39 appearances. |
| David Connolly | Scored 42 league goals across two seasons at Wimbledon; subsequently Leicester's leading scorer with 13 in 2004/05. | 1 goal in 22 appearances for Wigan and Sunderland. |
| David Nugent | 125 Championship goals; productive for Preston, Leicester, Derby and others. | 14 goals in 97 appearances. |
| Michael Chopra | 74 Championship goals, particularly effective at Cardiff. | 9 goals in 60 appearances. |
| Jordan Rhodes | 125 Championship goals; scored 29 in 2012/13 and 25 in 2013/14. | 0 goals in 6 appearances for Middlesbrough. |
| Jason Scotland | 48 goals in 170 second-tier appearances across Swansea, Ipswich and Barnsley. | 1 goal in 32 appearances for Wigan. |
| Lewis Grabban | 112 Championship goals across clubs including Bournemouth, Norwich and Nottingham Forest. | 1 goal in 21 appearances for Norwich and Bournemouth. |
| Mata›j Vydra | Already had 65 Championship goals by 2018 and finished 2017/18 as the divisions leading scorer. | 11 goals in 106 appearances for West Brom, Watford and Burnley. |
| Billy Sharp | Championship record-holder since the 2004 rebrand, with 130 goals. | 6 goals in 43 appearances. |

To go further on this.
I had a look at the top scorer in the Championship in each of the last 20 seasons.
There have been 19 different Championship golden boot winners in those 20 years.
Of those 19 players, 18 have played PL football.
Only 5 of those 18 players, managed to score at a rate better than a goal every 4 appearances in the PL, they were:
Ivan Toney - 31 goals in a season in the Championship, a goal every 2.08 games in the PL
Chris Wood - 27 goals in a season in the Championship, a goal every 3.11 games in the PL
Aleksander Mitrovic - 43 goals in a season in the Championship, a goal every 3.24 games in the PL.
Teemu Pukki - 29 goals in a season in the Championship, a goal every 3.31 games in the PL
Rickie Lambert - 27 goals in a season in the Championship, a goal every 3.87 games in the PL.
Our own Dom Solanke has scored 42 goals in 184 games in the PL (so a goal every 4.38 games). He scored 29 goals in the Championship the season that Bournemouth were promoted.
Goals in the Championship do not automatically mean goals in the PL. Though I will say that young players who do well in the championship do at least show that they are likely to have the physical strength and bravery to play at PL level.
I think Lankshear would've been handy for us to have around this season if we had qualified for European football. If he continues to have a really good season this year helping Boro to promotion and then he shows up well in the PL next season then I think there is a chance that we might buy him back in summer 2028, especially if we're in Europe then and another club trained player would be an advantage.
As an aside Chris Wood has always been a rather underrated player I think. He is a really good goal scorer as well as being a focal point up front for his team. As another aside I posted on here that Ivan Toney might be a decent option for us back when Mourinho was managing us and we had a bunch of injuries up front. That was before Brentford had picked him up back when he was still at Peterborough.
