It's also Trippier's job to get back into position as quickly as possible. Something he fails to do time and time again. If it were Walker or even Aurier, Sissoko doesn't need to cover as much. It's a full time occupation when Trippier plays.

It is but when it’s onbteb counter he will always get caught out

I’m not trippers biggest fan, and think we need a better player there but I saw him come back yesterday from being high up but also saw sissoko clean up before trips got back. Their both doing the job they have been asked to do IMO

He gets caught out more than others though. Plus as was shown on Motd last night he gets caught out of position just when trying to maintain a defensive line!

I’d love to watch the training session where we work on the ‘backs against the wall, big clearing hoof up the pitch’ scenario. Little fast guy then legs it after the ball.

I watched Emirates Marketing Project’s all or nothing on Amazon, and was equally amazed to see the precision training and detail Pep put into ‘goal mouth scramble, air punt to big man, all elbows and flick on to little fast guy’ :D

It's nothing to do with bias - I'd be calling it a hoof if Messi had done that. There's no way in that situation that any player attempts a pinpoint, curled pass between two opponents, into the path of Son. No matter how accurate you know you can be, it's just too risky.

I've no doubt that we would have trained with Son lining up either on the same side every time, or on the side from which the ball is coming every time. I've also no doubt that the players have been told that in those situations, there's a 20x20 area in that rough part of the pitch where clearances will give Son a chance to run onto the ball. But there's no way any of our players were tasked with a pass like that intentionally and there's no way Sissoko did that.
 
I thought he was very good yesterday. Have no real complaints about his performance.

Of course Id like to see more positive passing from him, but yesterday was probably as good as Ive seen him in this respect.

Best performance since Chelsea when he played a very different role IMO.

Im with Scara on the clearance, theres no way thats exactly what he meant. Most likely it was a case of clearing to an area and thats that. But he played if very well, saw the ball coming, shaped nicely and played it right into that area.

I think even his biggest fan wouldnt credit him with the vision and technique to see an execute that pass from that position though!

Twice. One a shot by Barnes which he put wide another a cross for Madison who also puts it wide. Sorry mate don't want to talk about Trippier in the Sissoko thread, but it is clear opponents target him as our weak link in defence.

He isn’t great defensively so it makes sense but I do think he is a victim of being asked to play as a wing back even in a 2
 
If you watch it from the other angle Sissoko gives the eyes to move the defender in the other direction first, then when he bites on this he plays in the correct channel for Son whilst applying just enough spin to make the defender think he can get back to it, causing the stretch and the slip, this wasn't to make the pass, which was already guaranteed, but to take one potential pursuer out of the chase.

It's not hyperbole to say this is the greatest pass ever played in any sport ever.
 
Didn't think he was as good yesterday. But having to wet nurse Trippier to the extent he has been obviously told to didn't help.

Leicester did a great job down our left and should have had 3 goals.

Trippier can't handle that position he was dreadful most of the game.
 
I think those assuming Sissoko is just covering Trippier who is so terrible he is out of position are... wrong.

Poch is far to astute to allow something like that to continue game after game.

Far more likely, IMO, its a deliberate tactic. In so much as, Trippier presses very high upfield and Sissoko covers.

I wont try and argue its been working especially well, but I do think its a purposeful action being employed.

Sissoko is a very good defensive workhorse, Trippier is not.

Trippier does have genuine quality on the ball and can effect our attacking play, Sissoko does not.

Seems pretty obvious to set up to take advantage of both of these things, doesnt it?
