Mousa Dembele

Im not sure what he brings to the side, when was the last time he headed the ball in the box,how many goals has he scored for us,when did he get to the by line for anyone ,i think pauliniho has done more in the first three games than dembeles done in a season.

i got a feeling he wasn't AVB signing and i won't be surprised if he leaves in January to 'balance the books'.

Is he the same player that tore us apart in a fa cup tie in in 2011 or was it his twin brother.

I said last season he gets caught in possession far too often and slows our play right down every time he receives the ball and never ever plays the ball early, with our new signings he should not be in the starting line up until we find a way of getting more out of him, never looks like scoring and does not get forward enough, never gets wide to spread play, never makes forward runs, I am really disapointed in him.

I'm not sure Moussa's poor form is worth worrying about excessively because he and Paulinho are probably cover for the same position if we look at it as a 22-man squad/2 players for each position scenario.

They are both the "1-up" DM playing beside the "1-back" DM of Sandro or Capoue. So, if Pauly is fit and in form, he plays with Moussa competing for that spot in training while trying to get form and fitness back.

All 3 of Pauly/Moussa/Capoue only started yesterday because we were short Lamela and/or Eriksen further up the pitch. Hence the lack of leadership/direction in midfield as the three of them were doing similar, indistinct roles.

I would have liked Holtby to start with Pauly and Dembele either side of him, we did not give them enough to worry about, with us playing the high line the game gets compressed and one of the three must make forward runs to support the striker, once that happened yesterday.

Also I dont think its a form thing, its the way Moussa plays.

I'm with you Jimmy, i think Dembele has so much talent but he's just so slow, what has happened to the guy that could run and ripped man u apart last season? He's certianly not a number 10 and he's useless behind Soldado so dont know why AVB keeps playing him there!

I see him being replaced by Ericksen for the Norwich game and then he's going to have to fight for his place back. We need to play a faster paced passing game, yesterday we were so pedestian in midfield.

I think Dembele is one of those players that we upgraded on very quickly.

Very good player, but Sandro/Paulinho/Capoue probably will provide better options. I said it after the first game, I think he will struggle to own a PL start this season.

I think maybe he is better in a 4-2-3-1 than a 4-3-3. If he gets a good player in front of him that can pick a lock and allow him to focus on bringing the ball up the pitch, away from our defence.

Yesterday's performance was typical of Dembele over the past few months and he now resembles a hybrid of Parker and Jenas in their latter years at our club. I no longer anticipate any end product when he starts powering forward with the ball as he either ends up running into traffic or playing a sideways / backwards pass.

I also was disappointed when Holtby didn't replace Mousa, as I thought Lewis showed with his MotM performance on Thursday that he could be a game changer with his incisive link-up play. Something which we we distinctly lacked yesterday, what with Soldado only having 25 touches the whole game and Defoe just 7 during his 26 minute cameo.

Jeez a fickle bunch! He's one of our most important players when on form. It's not like anyone else has set the world alight so far.

I was saying all of this last season and got shouted down. He holds on to it too long, when an early pass is begging to be made and gets dispossessed and knocked off the ball too easily for a man of his build. Bit of a light weight if you ask me. Would have moved him on before Dempsey, who at least scored.

Not meaning to be funny, but which direction are Spurs playing in this graphic?!

Left to right as others have said. The failed attempt at a through ball and the failed take-on (when he tried to burst pass one too many players as usual) in the attacking third are the giveaways.

Here's Paulinho' game chart for some contrast, whilst he also failed to deliver any end product at least he got much more involved in the attacking third and (unlike Dembele) he is still adjusting to English football.

I dont think his form is off its the way he plays and if we dont get him to play in another way then he damages us.

I think he will end up as first choice for either Pauly or Capoue if they are out, what I did realise the last couple of games is just how much ground Sandro covers he is immense, definitely first choice for the one who sits.
If you criticise anyone on here its like being accused of treason where in fact Dembele has good attributes but we have to get the best from him, I totally agree with your pedestrian statement and I hope that either Holtby or Ericksen will change that.

Dembele and Sandro were bossing it at the start of last season until Sandro got injured. I just think that the trio of Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue/Sandro hasn't clicked at all. Yes it gives us an immense dimension of stability as AVB might say, but it does not have the right chemistry going forward.
