but the player says he is staying, so it doesnt matter what Arse want
Even if they give him the choice of going somewhere else, doubling his wages in the process, or spend a season in the reserves?
I think any player refusing to sign a new deal with only a year left on his current deal is basically saying he wants to move. Whichever way anyone wants to twist it, the player is showing a lack of commitment to his current club and is therefore no different to someone like Modric who with however many years left on his deal has made it clear he wants to leave
RVP wants to leave, Modric wants to leave
I don't think RVP has insisted he be sold. He won't sign a new contract so its up to the club to decide. He almost certainly would prefer a move now, but would willingly play out his contract without any problems.
Modric is trying to terminate his contract and force a sale against the wishes of the club or at a knock-down price. He has shown himself willing to break his contract to try and get his way. We can only guess how he will play if forced to stay for another season. Very different.
Don't you think honouring your contract and trying to break it by coercion are different? RVP is giving the club the choice, Modric is trying to remove the choice.
RVP is 29, as good as he is, you just don't get the money they're worth at that age. Arsenal are much better off keeping him for this last season than selling for £15m as there's a good chance that him staying means another year of CL football. Bale is 23, if he only had a year left on his deal then there'd be such a massive frenzy over signing him that his price would still be very high despite only having a year left on his contract.
I guess it depends on how they rate their chances of finishing in the top 4 with him and without him. If they're confident of doing it without him then selling would be the best option, but if they think they'll struggle to get there without him then £40m CL money blows the RVP fee out of the water.
Theoretically yes there seems a choice, but in reality there is no choice for Arse, for any club with such a valuable player. More fool them for allowing it to get this far, but RVP is giving them no choice but to sell
I don't agree with that. Arsenal certainly have a choice. As Rossi says, they can keep the player and offset the lost transfer fee against potential lost CL revenue. If they don't get an offer over £15m they might well take that option. If they get a mega-offer they will probably choose to sell.
If RVP had said he only wants to move to Madrid and Madrid were offering only £10m, citing his age and injury record, and RVP had refused to turn up for training to try and force the move it would be more similar.
well if you think Arse have a choice then you must also believe that Spurs have a choice whether to sell Modric
Well, strictly they do, but that's not the point. I have already given my reasons for the difference between the type of choice being offered and the methods being employed.
