Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

I think this is actually a really well put, emotionally measured argument. I don't necessarily disagree greatly with what you have put. I am just scared that the next owners will be worse, and i'm actually quite happy operating in a competent, risk free way, especially when it's promoted continued achievement over the period ENIC have been in charge.
Define continued achievement? We haven't actually achieved anything, except the 'Putting the pressure on trophy'. And we aren't going to be fortunate enough to have Poch forever, Levys next appointment might be a dud like AVB or others before that. The next owners might actually prove more beneficial who knows, sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate....

Its only more important what the squad is worth if you're a selling club. The reason our value of squad would be similar to Citys is because we have younger players with higher resale value, Citys squad has more established stars in their prime and can win more trophies. So depends on what you want to achieve....
You've cracked it. We should just do what City do.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says a trophy is 'so close' but club needs to be patient

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has called on the club and its fans to be patient in the pursuit of trophies
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino feels they are "so close" to winning trophies but called for patience as he reiterated his commitment to the club.

Spurs' last trophy was the League Cup in 2008 and they have not won a league title since 1961 with Tottenham coming closest under Pochettino in 2017 as they finished as Premier League runners-up.

New stadium delays and a lack of transfer business in the summer has increased fears Pochettino could leave the club, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in him taking over from Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked last month.

But Pochettino, who signed a new five-year contract at Spurs in May, "wants to feel glory with Tottenham" although he does admit fans will need to patient for trophy success.

He said: "When you don't win you are so frustrated. You want to win so do the players, staff and fans.

"When you are close you need to try to translate that it's all under control and try to create a good feeling, trying to help that hope that one day we can win.

"But sometimes if you don't achieve what you want or that you expect, it's true that it's difficult to keep motivated with the right energy to achieve all you want.

"I think the period now for Tottenham is so exciting. When you assess Tottenham, it's in the middle of the journey to arrive in the harbour.

"You need time and the reality is we are very close to finishing the new stadium and creating some of the best club facilities in the world.
"They all have different costs to pay and sometimes to win titles today it's difficult for different reasons that you and our fans know very well.

"But for me, it's so exciting to be here at Tottenham helping the club to achieve the last level which we are so close to achieving but we need to have that patience that makes us stronger.

"We are finding different situations that you need to fix, a lot of difficult things [have happened] during the journey which need sorting but we are strong enough to sort all the problems and arrive at the end to achieve what the club and fans deserve.

"When I arrived at Tottenham the first video that they showed me was 'Tottenham Hotspur, we are talking about the glory'. Yes, I want to feel the glory with Tottenham.

"I watched that video from the 1960s and it would be fantastic to deliver it for our fans.

"First of all we need to finish the stadium and move there, finish the facilities here, be settled, make our stadium home again and work so hard to try to be competitive.

"We work with the responsibility to create a long-term project.

"I work like I'm going to be here for all of my career. That is the best thing and that is why sometimes it's difficult to explain our decisions and see the big picture, and a struggle for our fans to see understand why different things happen today.

"Me and my coaching staff feel responsible and that is why our commitment is not only in today but the future."

He must get bored having to reiterate his long term commitment every time he's linked away

He could help himself in that regard by not saying stuff like “This is the worst I’ve felt in my 5 years here.” There is no media agenda against Spurs, Poch sometimes attracts that sort of coverage because of his own utterances.

That said, I’m delighted with the interview above. Sounds positive.

we used to be mid table also rans. now people view us as one of the best in the country. we havent wont a title or trophy yet, but we've definitely improved while ENIC have been here.

my worry is that the next owners will not prove beneficial. I also think that Levy is incredibly smart, and I'm not sure many chairmen are at his level, to be honest.

Well we might get to win the league if the latest Football Leaks documents are right and that Arse Chelsea City Utd and Liverpool are in talks to form a Super League by 2021....

As much as I loathe the idea of it I’d be surprised if we wouldn’t be included in talks, football seems very short termism so only 2 of those clubs could really claim to have been better than us over the last 3 seasons.

Although if we were left behind we’d be like Martin Adams in the BDO!!

But it’s about the Superclubs and I guess we don’t have the same pull as the other 5 who all spend more and have more trophies etc? Also if it did happen likely all our best players would go to clubs in that league so maybe we wouldn’t be as successful as we think:D

I know it’s hard being a Spurs fan, it’s not your fault .

Love that speech El Poco, love it
Whenever I hear him talking long term it’s so reassuring in this world of instant gratification and 24 hours a day clickbait news. I’m hoping he is seeing a bigger picture because he has so much input into it and understands that any move he makes he won’t get the backing and loyalty from the chairman, fans and players to build something great from his own vision of the way the game should be played.

I'm in.

Sell Eriksen in January bring in de jong and ndembele good as gold. Lovely jubbly
You know, that may not be a bad idea. I was strongly advocating selling Eriksen 3-4 years ago and getting de Bruyne and got shouted down big time. That wouldn't have turned out too shabbily. Maybe now is the time, especially if he's looking to move on some point.

Fine if we can have De Bruyne in his place. :D

That does not sound like he is fed up and thinking about leaving us, hope that assures the fans whose bottle has gone and think he might be on the verge of quitting.
