Jack L. Jones
A born winner really.
Absolutely. If such a player was around now, he wouldn't have to join a successful team to become a winner and would be a great signing for us.
A born winner really.
I’m over yesterday now. Time to learn the lessons, hold on to every player in the squad that Poch wants and enter the new stadium with optimism. Fudge the press narrative. Yes, Poch has his weaknesses, as I said yesterday, but so do all of the top managers.
Then what is he charging the premium prices for?
Of course. But I still put it to you - do you think we are going to win things by constantly buying young talented players and having no guarantees of keeping hold of your top players? For a lot of these players they will be maybe a season away from questioning whether they want to stay at this club. Anyone thinking that Kane, Eriksen et al will stay here happy to not win anything for much longer are kidding themselves. We need a big player to show we mean business. The next step is the toughest one to take, and it’s more likely we fall out of the top 4 than it is we win the league with our policy at the minute....
thats the cost of having players on 100k, cost 50m etc.
to have players that are on 200k, cost 100m you need top ticket prices + subsidies.
Easier said than done. So maybe Toby wants more money so Poch says he can go. What happens if Christian wants £150-180K a week? And again while should he want to stay? Walker did not? We know Rose woulod go if Utd came knocking and as for Toby....
No I know and don’t get me wrong im Grateful for where we are punching above our weight. All I’m saying is if we want to take that final step we will have to make a serious buy or two, if we can’t afford to fine but I’d like to think with our new stadium and more consistent CL participation maybe we could push the boat or a little...It's a pointless question mate - we don't work with these constraints for a laugh, it's what the situation is and we're trying (and succeeding imo) to make the best of it. We're not sitting on a pile of money choosing not to spend it.
I think while these constraints are in place the long term strategy cannot be compromised for short term gain, when more money comes in to the club that should and will change somewhat
Yes Eriksen is the one i really worry about....You’re 400% right. In fact, I think Eriksen might have a look elsewhere this year. Kane will stay, Alli’s stock has fallen slightly so I reckon he’ll stay but Eriksen has really shone this season and he’s now 26 and spent 5 years here. We’ll do well to keep hold in my opinion especially if he has a good World Cup.
I’d give Eriksen that money. He deserves it more than Toby. He’s also 26 so will still have resale value in 2-4 years.
And therein lies the rub, how about we focus on buying and keeping quality players and less on "resale value". When we signp layers like N'Jie or N'Koudou there is always someone on here saying that they are young and if they do not work out there is good resale value. Ironically according to Wikipedia we sold N'Jie at a loss, go figure
In a wider context I reckon poch is about 12 to 18 month ahead of the schedule he and the club probably set when he signed.
So although yesterday's loss hurt, the bigger picture is still very bright.
Since the turn of the year I've been wondering about his in game management. He always had a player that would be pulled over to relay messages, bentaleb, rose then lamela. That doesn't seem to happen now.
I've always said it's evolution, not revolution with poch. So is this the next stage, is he now looking for someone to stand up on the pitch and be a leader and make calls?
I think we have players who are crying out for decision maker on the pitch, dele, Erikson, Jan and Harry all have the ability and desire but not that little bit inside them to make unpopular calls or tell it how it is.
Poch is always quoted as being ruthless with players, well I want to see it this window.
Dembele has been sussed, crowd him out because he will not pass.
Son needs to be told he plays for the team, not the Koreans in stand.
Dele, you don't win a game when you score, stop showboating.
Lamela, need to impose yourself more going forward, take some chances.
Poch is still the right man for us but I worry about next season, the new stadium won'
feel like home straight away and our players will be run into the ground at the WC.
Why would we go unbeaten at the new stadium? The season we did at WHL we had Walker and Rose down the wings which we don’t now, and Toby at CB which again we haven’t this season. Another reason why I’m not convinced we would have had as good a season at WHL this year and why being at Wembley isn’t the main reason....
