Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

Hmm Kante won the title with Leicester last year only to leave for Chelsea who didn't even qualify for the Champions League. Me thinks players are more concerned with money than trophies.

Leicester realistically weren't going to win anything else or even challenge for anything else

We said that at the start of the previous season. Yet they may have done better this season with him there. Conversely Chelsea fell apart last season and there was no guarantee that they were going to win anything this season.

If you had to choose which were going to do well over the next few years which would you have gone for?

Edit: better yet, if you were staking your career on it, which would you go for...

You would say Chelsea but then who would have said they would have blown up so spectacularly under the "Special one" and who would have said they would reach the heights of this season? Big gamble I thought as Kante had a chance to play in the Champions League, a chance he may not have got at Chelsea if they had kept on the trajectory of last season.

I think Wenger said he would have signed Kante were it not for the wages he was offered at Chelsea. That is an indication of why he moved.

In the end I don't think that even winning trophies would keep players at a club if we can't pay them top wages . So perhaps the ability to pay those wages is the most important thing and trophies are just for fans.

that's definitely the case - i guess you gotta just hope (as fans) that your owners see value in giving the supporters what they want to see

Lads.
We could still end up winning the title!!!!!!!
FFS...
That's why I love you Steff. I think it's a long shot but as you say, still possible. I actually think next season will be a big one I just want us to get more than 80 points and ideally finish second to show we can be genuine title challengers under a manager who I think is one of the best around.

It shows how high he has taken our expectations when we can spend pages essentially griping that he failed to beat the best side in the Country to get to a cup final rather than just chasing Arsenal for 4th spot or finishing mid table.

What's the bet he wins more with Chelski, i know it, he knows it and i bet deep down you know that as well. :)

Here's how the Premier League Table looks like from the time Mauricio Pochettino was appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur (correct to yesterday's matches):

Thanks for this. I think it's an outstanding achievement - maybe even close to what Timmeh did. (I refuse to add an emoji to this comment so please decide for yourself if I'm being serious)

One of the great mysteries of life ....

I have to believe mate. Poch has given me enough fuel to believe. It could still happen, and until mathematics say it can't, I won't stop believing. In fact, it would be so utterly, wonderfully, beautifully and deliciously Spurs to see Poch win his first trophy not only the hard way but as the biggest one available in domestic football.
I can tell you, IF it happens, there are some tosskkers from west london who are getting it from me.

We are a better team than them, we will have Rose back for the run-in and they could yet have an arrogance slip-up. I think Everton will do them too.

Yeah...I still believe.

p.s. let's say Man U get to the Europa. Let's say it is a 2 or 1 point gap when we play them. Is it beyond the realms of possibility to see Mourinho put out a reserve side basically, for his final but also because his love for them has turned to hate? I think so. And how utterly UTTERLY ironic would it be for something like that to happen given last season?...

Steff,I always enjoy your optimism. But it is extremely unlikely Chelsea are going to drop anything more than a few points at best - which even then means we will have to win practically every game. Do you really believe that will happen?! I don't want to put a dampener on your posts, im trying to believe what you say but just can't see it happening.....

Two things,
Players always saybthetvare moving to win things, because if they said I'm moving for money (which they are) then would just look like greedy gits.

This team is growing, I would sacrifice a one off cup final for the chance of better times ahead. We as a club aren't in a position to acquire instant sustainable success, we are ahead of schedule but let's be patient, not expect us to run before we can walk or be fooled by the narrative in the media that we need a trophy to prove anything.

Yeah, I can sort of agree looking at it from that viewpoint - we were definitely better than we were against Monaco, Leverkusen and Gent.

But I'm not convinced we were as flawless today as we usually are at WHL. Too many lost challenges, too many needless turnovers, too many moments where the chemistry was off. It was a good performance, mind-bending tactical weakness at LB notwithstanding - but nothing to suggest we're in for WHL-esque levels of performance at Wembley next season by any means.
We were playing the best side in the league mate. We will not be facing them week in week out at Wembley. Play like we did last Saturday against any other side in the league 90% of time we win.

Admittedly true, but my reference point was the 2-0 win against the same opposition at the Lane - we coolly controlled and strangled them in a way that only one other team (United) have managed to do this season. Yet we concede 4 goals in 4 shots at Wembley, and never really look as assured as we do at the Lane against any opposition, big or small - except perhaps for Liverpool.

Simple fact is, it's the level of performance that we reach at the Lane that's allowing us to perform as we're currently doing - in the League, in the cups and so on. Any slip from that, however small, will impact our competitiveness. And I'm sure even you will allow that said slip is likely next season - it just won't be exactly the same at Wembley, no matter how much we wish it to be. The question is, will the slip be big enough to turn a competitive, relentlessly controlled 2-0 into a somewhat more fragile 4-2 loss?

As I keep telling people I am meeting in everyday(non internet) life. I want to smash in the face all these pricks telling me we cant play at Wembley, bar Portsmouth the are not many teams I feel we should have beaten that we have played at Wembely, so take what you read in the Sun you chavy inbred fcuk wits and fcuk off with your stupid repeating of tag lines from crap tabloids, cnuts.

The only answer I can give my friend is the same first four words I started that post with. I have no other option. It keeps me moving forwards :)

Rose and Walker both on the pitch from the first minute. Winks off the bench. Massive factors mate.
