Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

A lot of opinion based BS (Levy is triggerhappy, Baldini is somehow still in a job, Bale wasn't spent wisely), not much news.

Opinion that most people would agree with.
Levy has to find a way to make the Poch appointment work or he'll look ridiculous.

Greg Stobart is one of the few journalists I'd genuinely pay attention to when it comes to Spurs, he does seem to have decent inside info, or at least gets passed good info from time to time from inside the club. Whether he is used as an unofficial press-release or spin-doctor, is another matter.

That Greg Stobart piece sounds so bitter it's unreal. I remember listening to one of his Podcasts last year post AVB's sacking and he was similarly bitter about Baldini and 'how poorly he had spent the Bale money.'

Like this latest piece, it sounded much more like a fans frustrated musings rather than anything based any real journalistic research or inside info.

It would be interesting to listen or read one of his pieces from the beginning of the 2013/14, when we were all relatively excited with the signings, to see if there is some consistency

He is a Spurs fan, so the frustration we all feel will clearly reflect in his work.

Yeah, I get that he's a Spurs fan as well. Doesn't mean that as Jordinho says he's just passing his own personal gripes in his "article" as real journalism.

Even the Gooner journo John Cross of the Mirror often questions Wenger and the club's policies in his articles, but they always read more like journalistic pieces that are well sourced rather than rants like Stobart's current piece.

Doesn't sound like a rant to me. Don't think it's particularly insightful however or really using any inside knowledge. Its a summary of what is clear as day looking at Spurs from the outside:

*Sherwood complained about the quality and ability of the squad to play a high tempo game.
*Pochettino hasn't publically complained about transfers or players but the amount of first team squad members that are supposedly fully fit getting little game time in the league tells its own story.
*Its clear Levy is willing to restructure the club's analysis and scouting- hence bringing back Broomfield and recruiting Mitchell.
*It appears barring a disaster Poch will be given time.

A rant?

I support Levy, that article simply sums up the current situation, how that is seen as a rant I will never know.

Agreed. I honestly think some people believe that any article that doesn't kiss Levy's **** and call him the best chairman in the league means they hate him. The standard hate him according to GB, it's beyond silly.

Although the term "trigger happy" is a matter of his own opinion, he's gone through enough managers for that remark to not be totally wide of the mark.

We have wasted the Bale money if we are judging the signings SO FAR.

Baldini has done a poor job so far. Again, that's his opinion, but why is asking the question of how is keeping his job so terrible?

It's a justifiable question. If the director in charge of football affairs oversees three transfer Windows during which we sign a load of players that either aren't picked by the manager or just do not play that well and the football deteriorates questions are legitimately asked. As I've said I'm.not sure Baldini is responsible for the majority of the seven players signed last summer he was brought in just before Paulinho signed suggesting we were already working through our targets and his remit was merely to get the deals done

It's not a rant?

Some quotes that sound like ranting:

"The root of the problem lies with a squad bloated with mediocrity and Tottenham’s total failure to adequately reinvest the money from Gareth Bale’s £86 million world record sale to Real Madrid in 2013."

"While technical director Franco Baldini somehow clings on to his job despite two dreadful summer transfers windows in which the club has spent £135m, changes are being made behind the scenes to create the environment that Levy and Pochettino want at White Hart Lane."

"An interview with former sporting director Damien Comolli last week in which he described Tottenham’s scouting network as a joke would have struck a nerve with Levy in its accuracy."

"The appointment of Mitchell is recognition that the club have relied too much on the word of Baldini, scout Ian Broomfield and a handful of influential agents when making key transfer decisions."
Btw, has that been much different in the past? How many people were involved in making key transfer decisions under Redknapp for example? More or less?:-k

A classic case of BS right here: "Both Villas-Boas and Sherwood often found themselves ignored or facing strong resistance from the hierarchy when they pushed hard to sign certain players"
Er..what players did Sherwood push for last January??

More BS: "When Sherwood decided a month after taking charge last December that he did not have the players to play a high tempo style, Levy put it down to poor coaching on the training ground."
I think we could all see Sherwood played the same way from the beginning to the end; oh and Sherwood turned down the chance to get players in January, so this is clearly just a rant.

More ranting by Stobart:

"After two years of hoarding average players, it should be little surprise that Tottenham have ended up with a distinctly average squad that sits 12th in the Premier League, already 15 points behind leaders Chelsea."

"Etienne Capoue has been a regular starter in midfield but Pochettino wants an upgrade, with the lack of clarity in transfer strategy laid bare by the fact that summer signing Benjamin Stambouli has made just one Premier League appearance as a substitute."
One can complain about not getting in Schneiderlin or Mussachio, but it cannot be said that there was not a strategy. Again more ranting.

Honestly, any of us could have written that as part of a blog. There may or may not be some truths to what was written (apart from the Sherwood stuff ) but it seemed more like a rant that Richard Littlejohn would knock out in his Sun column than what a supposed journo would write as an article for a football website.

we're very good at looking like we know what we are doing only for the wheels to spectacularly come off shortly after

His terminology may not be to the liking of some, but he is right to question these things, after all what terminology would you prefer, a squad filled to the brim with gold dust or a squad at full capacity which falls short after giving its all?

The squad does have many a good player but it is simply too big after a poor or hastily made attempt of creating the perfect squad in the hope of having two good players per position. We have players restless after failing to make the bench let alone starting XI, players of whom cost anythiny between £10 - 20m. Also much of the squad do not fit Poch's system or any system for that matter.

Whilst you can question his choice of words you cannot avoid his criticisms.

Where were these criticisms in his summer article at the close of the window? Why didn't he state "how poor our transfer policy is" back then?:-k

If he had, what would you have said? In any event, he doesn't have to be right b4 the fact. The only thing that matters is whether we as a club were right after the fact. Thats all that counts to us and those around us. BTW, are there any journos, or analysts, or TV guys that actually are highly regraded in here? They must be getting thin on the ground.

Most of it is quite poor sensationalism at best

- Lloris, Walker, Eriksen, Vert, Lamela, Ade is not the basis of "bloated with mediocrity"

- Again two dreadful summer windows is a bit over the top sensationalism

- Comolli, got fired, ****ed up, went to Pool, ****ed up, considered by Wenger to be vastly overrated scout, not a reliable gauge of truth

- Hiring someone who has done a good job automatically is a condemnation of the past?

- Without naming the players is useless, what did he/AVB really think we were going to sign Hulk?

- ****ing Sherwood had been around the club for years, it took him a month into being coach to know if the player were capable of playing a high tempo?

- 15 points behind Cheat$ki, why not actually say how close we are to Pool/Scum/Manure? vs the run away points leader at moment

If someone wants to be taken seriously (and there are significant issues at the club), can do better than this gutter rag speculation piece.
