Came in for a lot of stick when he first came here, but he has shown promise under Conte and i hope he keeps it up.

You could see Kane actively looking to bring him into play and combine with him. A big difference from seeing Royal and thinking "nah".

He also came into the game more when Richarlison went off, the latter hasn't found a short game with us at all so wasn't finding a way to get MD in play.

Played a very solid, crafty game. It's those dangerous runs forward that keep his opponents on that wing honest, which helps take pressure off when he's defending.

An excellent performance from Matthew. Shows what a difference having a wing back that can break the lines and progress the attack. It's not Royal's fault but he isn't suited to playing wingback in this system.

At the very least, hopefully he’s done enough these last two games to actually be rotated for the position with Royal as opposed to Royal starting every league game with no rotation at all.

Royal cannot do what Doherty did yesterday.. it’s not in his capability currently
Shame as it’s a fundamental for a wing back and it’s why royal is a weak link in the system

Exactly and TBH its not stick its just fact, Doherty did yesterday in one game what Royal has failed to show in the time he occupied that role, we should all want better and even if you have been lauding Royals performances then you should over the moon at Dohertys
