Shows that someone people have nothing else in their lives but football and their life depends on the result every Saturday afternoon. Maybe get some other hobbies or interests.

It’s an interesting point, white players could get more comments / abuse, but non white players get racial abuse, even if it might not be as much.

Disgusting either way, society has gone to pot.

How do you know it wasn't racial abuse? It's a global game. The majority of people that watch football are not white. Especially man utd fans whose players got the most abuse.

No read the article. It breaks it down by player. Ronaldo and mcguire got far more abuse than rashford or any black player at utd. Kane more than any player at spurs etc...

What colour is ronaldo going to class himself as? He's european.

It would have said wouldn’t it? Racial abuse is racial abuse, whether it’s v a white or non white.

As long as it is safe to do so, we all have a duty to call it out when we hear it. Obviously we can’t do that when it’s online but it can be reported.
I think I mentioned it on here a few years back after the Euros penalty shoot out which I watched in the pub there was a bloke who said “did you notice it was all the black players who didn’t score their penalties”. I can’t recall now exactly what else he said but I called him out on it. Apparently. as he told me, if I saw his wife I’d know he wasn’t racist.
I pitied his wife. He was a racist.

Edit to add that’s not the last time I’ve called out racists but it’s a pertinent example given the Tel abuse.

Edit 2 : it’s also difficult as a woman to challenge it sometimes because I have to be aware if my husband is with me that if someone reacts to me calling them out then there’s a situation he feels (understandably but annoyingly) he has to intervene in.

The abuse Harry Maguire got for about 12-18 months was some of the worst I'd ever seen. It was bullying in my view and I don't use that word lightly. He became the punchline to everyone's jokes - his fans, opposition fans, England fans, pundits. I'm not a massive fan of him as a player but I take my hat off to him for getting through that and not folding or not reacting. The fella has real character.

Looking on the social media posts after the statement by the club there was lots of laughing reactions and sick comments from people with very foreign names and from lots of various different areas of the world. Now i am not saying non of our English fans were involved because that is very likely but the majority of it (that is in public view) seem to be from these foreign “trolls”.

1. The abuse Ronaldo and Maguire got was not based on their skin colour but their playing ability. Tel's abuse went further than that and brought race in to the equation.

I can’t agree that the abuse of Ronaldo and Maguire was based on ability.

Ronaldo is one of the greatest footballers in the history of the game. If he’s getting abuse because of his ability, every other player is fudged.

Maguire is a very good centre back and an international footballer. He got abuse not because he’s a bad player but because he was going through a bad spell and many people, some who should have known a lot better, thought it was okay to pile in on him in the most personal way possible. It highlighted the nasty side of mob mentality.
