Mateus Fernandes Official

From Sky

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi says Mateus Fernandes missed Spurs' 1-1 draw with Sydney FC due to fatigue - and should be back in training next week.

Spurs' £85m signing was absent for the Sydney game amid rumours he had picked up an injury during the club's pre-season tour of Australia.

Fernandes is set to miss Spurs' pre-season friendly with Chelsea this weekend but should be ready to be part of the London section of Spurs' pre-season.

"Fernandes is just fatigued, the calf, and also for him we took the decision not to take any risk and to recover," De Zerbi said in his post-match press conference.

"But the next week, Wednesday, when we start the pre-season in London, he will be ready to work."

If there was a positive from that brickshow, it's that he looked pretty good today. The press resistance and ability to knit the play was streets ahead of Bergvall. Think his passing got us 2 of Moore's three identikit chances, too.

He looked quality, and we have to get him and Tonali ticking together ASAP

As exciting to watch as Savio was for me. He’s so composed and will make us tick. He can just control it. Love the way that he plays.

I was at the match with some mates last night and we couldn’t help but watch in admiration how this midfield maestro pulled the strings and everyone sat around us was purring about how damn good this guy is 😎

Even at £85m he could prove to be a bargain as nobody is having to caveat that with “but he’s only…” as he’s proof that if you’re good enough you’re old enough and should be the first name on the team-sheet!
