Mateo Musacchio

what is your view on pjanic? serious question

someone id be very happy with Spurs signing, I think we miss someone like him in midfield. Actually surprised he hasnt moved on to a bigger club. I think he will be off in 15/16 though if I am honest with you, big year this year when we win the league.

in your opinion what kind of a player is he. how does he influence the game and who do you compare him to?

The report from the other page is actually along the same as I would have said about Mussachio. He is still young as a CB, but if I'm not wrong he has played over way over 100 games in Spain (one season in second division) at an age of 23. He looks like a defender who could be close to world class, but so far he seem to "lose his head" sometimes. I would compare him to Daws, blocks a lot of shots and tackles a lot on the ground. Very often well timed. And he is much better than Daws with the ball to his feet. He is not very fast, but compensates by a good footballing brain. He reads the game very well. I can't say I'm an expert, I only watched him four or five games last season. Veron23 mentioned his own goal against Barca. Yes, that was clumsy, but he was a rock for 75 minutes, and Villareal actually lead 2-1 when he was unlucky. I would like to think he is well suited for the PL, but of course: Every signing is a gamle. But: For about £15 mill I would take him. No doubt in my mind.

pure playmaker with ability to dictate a game. he influences a game with his incredible vision, his forward quick decisive passes that can take one or two players out of a game in an instant. hmmm who would I compare him to.. i dont know really, i would say Modric but I think hes more inventive with his forward passing and more a threat

in regards to Argentine defenders, I'm surprised we haven been liked with Otamendi from Porto.

i have the opposite opinion of him.

in the world cup for example all he did was make side passes when the forward pass was on. i watched him thoroughly. is that him not being his usual self or the fact he played deeper and doesn't know/isnt used to dictating the game unless he's in the final third? modric can be in his own half and still penetrate.

Not sure three matches with the National team is the wisest way to judge a player. Pjanic is fantastic, IMO, but I like it when he's a little bit further up the pitch than Modric.

I have also never seen Musacchio, but I was happy to see that he only gives up one free kick per match in the La Liga. It's one of my biggest frustrations with Spurs. It seems like we always give so many dangerous free kicks, and he seems to be pretty accomplished. One foul per game is good for any central defender. I also had a look at his rating on Squawka, which is a pretty solid resource, and he was one of the top players on Villareal's team and seems like he's highly rated. I think if Pochettino likes him, I'll be open to it.

I think if we have a central defender unit of Vertonghen, Chirches, Musacchio, Dier, and Kaboul that's a great place to start. Hopefully, we can then transition out of Kaboul and to one of Chiriches or Musacchio to team w/ Vertonghen, who is a better player than he showed at times last season.

Have to admit, he does look quite frenetic at times in that above Barcelona clip, but it is in the Nou Camp against Iniesta, Neymar, Messi, and friends. That kind of match can make even the best defender look ropey in patches. Just based on that, it seemed he did pretty well, especially considering he won't see any attacks that fearsome in the Premier League.

I know that Veron seems to think that he's quite slow, but he showed some impressive pace at times in that clip, especially in one moment later on when he ran down Neymar. Can't imagine Dawson or Kaboul doing that. Hell, can't imagine how either of them would look vs FCB.

i love Daws, but just think back to what Aguero did to him and that will tell you a bit of he would look like v FCB :)

id be disappointed if we buy this guy instead of Vlaar, its a lot of money for a defender with no PL experience. but poch is the boss and he needs to be given the chance to go his own way

Why are you starting an in depth discussion about Miralem Pjanic in this thread?

Wrong place, fella. If you wish to continue it, could you please start another thread in the General Football forum? Cheers.
