Wonder were this leave Lo Celso. Hopefully the new Villarreal manager still likes him and wants to make it permanent if not hopefully Emery will stump up the cash at Villa for him.

Interesting to see how he does, especially as he was seemingly Paratici's third choice in summer 21 (Conte, Poch, Lopetegui, Fonseca, Gattuso, Santo seemed to be the order). I think Lopetegui is a really good coach

They've spent years selling their best players and replacing them with inferior ones. You can only perform miracles for so long. The bad runs are really bad though.

They are not in the position to go toe to toe financially with the big boys or over spenders. So their model is buy low sell high. Use that money to buy 2 more low etc...

It's the only way they can try to improve.

And he's gone

Only saw 10 mins of yesterday and they absolutely battered Saudi Sportswashing Machine for the entirety of it. Then Saudi Sportswashing Machine broke away and scored a second and it was game over.

That's always been my impression of Southampton under him - they can dominate games but do so in a way that leaves them wide open at the back. It's entertaining but ridiculously naive. The time we beat them 5-2 at their place under Jose sort of encapsulated it.
